"It was amazingly spacious including the roomy bathroom. There was a fridge, lovely teas, and a safe, which were much appreciated. It was centrally located and very close to Durham University, making our visit with our daughter very convenient."

"After a late arrival we were informed that the pool, sauna, steam room and gym were all still open which was a nice welcome after a long drive. We followed this by a drink in the bar area, service was noticeably stretched this particular evening due to a wedding party (possibly two), and an 80th birthday celebration meaning tables were not getting cleared and bar service was slow. "Rooms are dated but clean. Take a free parking disc otherwise there ia a charge for one at the hotel. You can purchase a permit in the hotel for street parking near the hotel. We booked early, so would've preferred a sea view room with long windows on the 1st floor . Great hotel if going to the spa theatre. "

"This is a lovely hotel simple but with splendidly large sized rooms - mine had an en-suite bathroom and a big double bed. With wonderful views of the castle and church across the road. Well worth a visit. For cleanliness, politeness of staff and facilities it is definitely worth the cheap price I paid for two nights….. Top marks AAA***** "

"Unfortunately not a perfect stay which was very disappointing with it being my husband’s birthday, booked through Hotels.com so not allowed to use the pool unless we paid £45 each, I have never heard of this before.The rooms are very nice but paying £5 for nut or crisps is ridiculous. The breakfast was very underwhelming with minimal choice, awful cold poached eggs, cold plates, weak coffee, all left me feeling very sick! Not worth £291 for one night. "

"Upon arrival no staff was to be seen, but was polite and showed us to our rooms. A few hazards on entry grates raised up on tile flooring at entry ( trip hazard) lift doesnt work. We was there two nights no fresh towels or bedding. Had to buy our own toilet roll. Cleaness needs a good clean over, walls had stains, carpets need a good clean. Overall was warm, comfy. Its a hotel that would have alot of potential or would benefit a good make over. Pictures arent a true image of the hotel people are...

"Lovely room, lovely bedding/beds, good quality towels. Tea/coffee making facilities. Room very quiet. Staff very helpful/friendly. Breakfast very good, plenty of choice. "
