"The Hawthorne Hotel in Salem is amazing. Fantastic location, really great vibe in the lobby - feels like a fancy living room. You are welcomed to relax and read, have a glass of wine or cup of tea, do a little people watching - I've never been in a hotel before where I actually wanted to hang out in the lobby, it's usually just a place to wait. The rooms are nice and clean and quiet and have the amenities you need, you can control the heat and open the windows a little bit if you want some fresh air, beds are comfortable. This is our second year having a little 'staycation' at the Hawthorne, it's now a tradition we all look forward to. "

"The room reserved was very nice and everything seemed tidy and clean. The only negative comment on this stay would be for the maintenance on snow removal. The did a horrible job plowing everywhere you go you had to step into high snow and being I didn't have boots on that wasn't pleasant and made it extremely difficult to unload my vehicle and reload at check out. Not any fault of the regular staff but frustrating."

"The guy at the check in desk was very personable. He showed us around and gave us a room upgrade as the hotel was not very busy being a winter month. "
