"Thank you Nikko Hoshinoyado- we had a wonderful Japanese experience in Nikko and at the hotel. We are sorry we don’t speak Japanese, and that made little things challenging a bit. We wish we knew that for a best experience we should have booked dinner at the hotel because we did not find a single suitable place to eat within walking distance of the hotel (October 18, 2024). So we did not have dinner that night. Breakfast, on the other hand was fantastic. We also loved the Onsen experience....

"The staff was very friendly and the rooms were comfortable. There was common space to eat, and food available for purchase at the market. Only a couple places to eat nearby, town is 20 minutes away by foot and busses were not as readily available as we had hoped. There are three busses that take you into town in the AM and only three available in the evening to return to the hotel. Both are by reservation only."

"Mr. Ban runs a great guesthouse. If you're not vegetarian, get full board. It's a bit hard to find. Directions: Take bus from stop 1A at Nikko Train Station. Get off at stop 13. Walk up hill past Saitoh Dental Clinic. Walk to end of high stone wall on right. Continue past grassy area on right. A 2nd stone wall begins. Take right at first opening and bear right. Gasthof Ami is the big house at the far end. "

"This is a small hotel with limited hotel rooms. Some rooms need to shared bath. We stayed in a Japanese style room with a private bath. The room is not fancy but clean and confortable. The hotel is walkable distance to most of the attractions, only 2 min walk to Shokyo bridge, 15 mins walk to Toshogu Shrine, and 18 mins walk to Tobu-Nikko train station. The Heritage shuttle bus stop 7 is right in front of the hotel. "

"The hotel was gorgeous! It was very well located near the station, numerous restaurants, and shopping. The buses for temples and shrines as well as tours to the lake and waterfalls were very close by. The onsen was AMAZING and tattoo friendly! The breakfast was plentiful and hearty. I am vegan and my daughter is not. We were both satisfied. The view from the hotel of the mountains was SPECTACULAR! I really wish we had reserved more than one night. I will be back for sure. "

"Feels very upmarket from the entrance all the way to the room. The Japanese room I stayed in felt extremely large; like a 5-star hotel in Tokyo. The washbasin area looks modern and is well equipped with amenities, including a face steamer. Separate toilet is large. Bathtub is deep for a good soak with a nice view of the outside. "The hotel was very comfortable and the staff were all friendly and helpful. We appreciated the very comfortable beds after a long day of traveling and the convenience of the community kitchen and laundry facilities. The hotel is just a quick taxi ride from the station. We enjoyed staying here and would definitely stay again should we be in Nikko. "
