"The room was clean, pleasant and ready on time. Staff were friendly and helpful. The bed was comfortable and decently sized. We stayed in Room 1. The room is painted in dark colours which were modern and nice but with the lighting I couldn’t see anything up close in the mirrors. It was dark for applying any make-up. "

"Great 1 night stay at The Old Mill. Check in was smooth greeted by one of the team in reception. Room was clean and comfortable. Pillows were a bit too firm but just my view. Food in restaurant was some of the best pub food I have had for a long time and good value. Restaurant was surprisingly busy for mid-week and good to see. Breakfast also was the same great quality. Will definitely be back!"

"A lovely welcome to a lovely, remote Old Mill house..! The place is beautiful but needs a little TLC which works are being carried out now. The room was OK, big enough but a very cold bathroom - no heat in there at all.. The bed was old & creaky but clean & we slept OK. Tea & Coffee in the room. Bar area and breakfast was first class - always served with a smile. Open fire in bar area made it very cosy. We would stay again. Would love to see the place a little busier which I'm sure it will be...

"An EV charger would be beneficial. Staff are pleasant and breakfast was great. Nice rooms with slightly dodgy water pressure on the shower but not bad. Really comfy bed and would definitely recommend."

"A lovely house with welcoming, friendly and helpful hosts. Very comfortable room with well-equipped “private bathroom” nearby (a very minor whinge is that en suite would have been nice). Great individually tailored breakfasts to set us up for the day. Location is in easy walking distance from the town and several good walks. Free parking right outside. 10/10"

"Our stay at the Westgate Manor was one of the best hotel experiences we have had. Hosts, Stuart and Kathryn give a very high standard of personal service to us and made our short stay memorable. The Manor offers fantastic accommodation and a truly wonderful experience with young dear in the garden in the early morning and three peacocks roaming around! We will be back. Thank you."

"Warm welcome on arrival. All matters explained for my stay. Everything provided and to a high standard. Comfortable bed and room. Lovely breakfast spread and freshly cooked breakfast was delicious. "

We rang and got told she didn’t realise we were staying then admitted she hadn’t checked any emails. We were told to go next door to get her elderly mum to come and unlock. Her lovely mum bless her had shall we say had memory problems. Anyway. We were sitting in her house being baby sat by an old lady as we weren’t aloud in house by ourselves. This was the first break we had this year....

"My partner and I stayed for an evening while visiting Durham. The room and staff exceeded our expectations. Both the bedroom and bathroom were tastefully designed and extremely spacious. We were lucky enough to have a view of the cathedral. Breakfast was of very high quality and served in a very pleasant environment. "All in all nice little cottage for a couple and good as was pet friendly to go up Durham to visit our son up uni and take our dog to see him too. Cottage was nice a little place although i think the tv was slightly too high on wall. As we arrived there were 3 plumbing vans parked outside so had to park out side another cottage for bout hour n half till they moved their vans after going in pub at front of cottages before parking own car then outside our own cottage. An incredibly countryside gem

"I am from the US, but I found this place after discovering through Ancestry research that the Lumley family is in my family tree, and I found this castle in searching them and I wanted to see it, so we came. Lumley Castle is a unique and amazing gem. There is so much history. The reception desk sells a book about the history, which is definitely worth purchasing. We attended Burns Nights in Baron's Hall, and the event was wonderful, with great food and fun dancing afterwards. The event spaces are just beautifully maintained. Our Castle Classic room was small but beautiful. The tub was perfect and we took luxurious soaks. The little vanity area was a very nice touch. We thoroughly enjoyed our breakfast each day and we stayed for dinner one night as well. Afternoon tea on Saturday was fairly priced and the scones and cakes were delicious. The library bar has such a perfect vibe. I loved reading by the fire with a drink. We could not have had a better stay. Also, even though it is in the middle of nowhere, you can actually still get Uber Eats from the cities nearby. It felt a little odd to be texting my uber driver, I will meet you by the entrance to the castle, but alas, it worked out just fine. "

"This was the second time we've stayed at this hotel. The staff are always so friendly and helpful. Rooms are spacious and clean, and it's always good to have a walk in shower. Location is perfect, right in the centre of Darlo with plenty of choice for bars and restaurants."
