"Great location, amazing views from the sea view rooms, friendly staff, very clean; but it’s not a four stars more like a 3 stars plus. No sound proofing between the rooms, forget sleeping quietly, bath towels are very rough, bath hot water is just mild…nice but for the price could be better"

"Wonderful view of harbor. Excellent friendly service. Safe parking behind security gate. Worth splurging to get a suite, ~20 foot decorated ceilings, huge bathroom with excellent shower. 10/10!"

"Fantastic. Great hotel, professional staff, great location. Just be really careful if you need to park. If you miss the gate it's a 8-minute drive back. The only drawback was the heat in the room (winter). It was very hot. The desk turned the heat off remotely for us but it was still 82+ in there so we had to leave the door open (40's outside) to sleep."

"This property has the most amazing view, a great host and wonderful breakfast. The drive up is a bit narrow and windy but definitely worth it! Fulvio, the host gladly shares all the beautiful places worth visiting. All around a wonderful place to visit!!!"

"Really good value for money. I stayed in the single room as a solo traveller. Room was clean and comfortable. Small, but comfortable. Water was hot and there was a small fridge in the room. Staff were very warm and helpful. If you’re on a budget, this is a great option. "

3rd stay - always a pleasure

"Feb 2023, 2024, 2025 we stayed for a couple nights at the Excelsior Palace and every time has been a great experience. Rooms are lovely, very comfortable, great amenities (we've been in 3 classifications: all were great). The breakfast buffet is wonderful: lots of choice including made to order items. The view from the dining room is gorgeous. The location is spectacular with views over the Med, infinity pools that hang out over the sea are wonderful - warm & there are both pool-side and indoor showers, changing rooms, a gym, etc.. LOVE that it's 10 minute walk into the heart of Rapallo 10 minute walk to beach restos in San Michele 25-30 min walk to Santa Margherita Bus stops at the foot of the hotel which runs from Santa Margherita train station to the Rapallo train station so if you overdo it, easy to hop on! "

"One of Portofino’s finest hotels. Our private, luxurious, high-ceiling, large room with a balcony overlooking the sea was a total treat. A fairy tale. A short stroll to the bay of Portofino where all the action is on the waterfront. The staff were so friendly and kind, they really took great care of us. We hope to return one summer to take advantage of the hotels own private beach. "

"The stairs leading to the apartment are very steep and narrow, this should have been in the description. The washing machine did not work and when we contacted the host for help, he never responded. Also, kitchen supplies were not available (washing cloth and drying cloth)"

JOIVY Bright 2Br Apt Right Next To The Waterfront

"Before leaving our accommodation to head to this apartment, while still using wifi, I checked us in and the last communication was that someone would meet us at location for 330pm. The emails warned of penalties for a late check in time. When we arrived no one was there so we sat and waited...and waited..and waited some more. Eventually, we tried to phone the number that was provided. It didnt go through to anyone. The "free wifi" zone in Portofino was extremely dodgy. We ended up having to take the shuttle bus back into Santa Margherita and finding a cafe with wifi. Through the helpful service on Expedia we were able to find out that the owner had TEXT us with instructions to let ourselves in. Of course, my phone was not receiving text messages while visiting Europe. We took the shuttle back to Portofino and were able to get inside. The suite is advertised as having a washer and dryer. There is NO DRYER. Our bedding had no fitted sheet. Extremely bare bones accommodation. The couch was filthy and stained. The hot water tank allowed for 10 MINUTES of HOT WATER in a tiny gringy bathroom. Portofino is beautiful but do not there! Make a day trip(s) in and stay in Santa Margherita. Prices and amenities are far better. Its also a beautiful walk..or a shuttle away! This accommodation was the absolute worst of our visit to Italy. "
