"We loved this hotel! It is so unique, being a 500 year old building, once a hospital and so many fascinating parts preserved, it's like walking around a museum! Breakfast was fantastic, staff were friendly and helpful and the pool was lovely."

"Hard to beat the views from this historic hotel. Perched on top the mountain overlooking the city of Viana do Castelo and the river below is breathtaking. Staff very helpful and professional. Rooms a bit dated but clean and comfortable. You may need to get creative to charge electronic devices as outlets are scarce. Nice breakfast with wide variety offered. Transport to town on the funicular is available during the day, ample parking at the hotel. "

"Clean, friendly staff, easy access, simple but stylish facilities. Good breakfast with essentials. Fresh baked pastries and bread. Only negative for me, personally is the pillow comfort. However, this is a personal preferences on pillows. Otherwise, spotless!"

"A truly relaxing property. Huge, beautiful gardens provided the most serene setting for sitting out under the olive trees. A large pool where you could really get your laps in and lemon and lime trees with an abundance of fruit to pick. The house was very traditional. Lots of space and a very quirky ground floor. The pictures on Vrbo don't do it justice. The hosts made us very welcome and were very flexible with checking in early. Response times were great as we got a bit lost trying to find the...

Wonderful place to stay

"The hotel has the most beautiful views. We were given an upgrade and had a room overlooking both the sea and a the famous church which overlooks the city. At the same time we had a welcome gift of wine, heart biscuits, and grapes. The biscuits and grapes were replenished each day. The breakfast at the hotel was quality and in a beautiful room. This hotel is recommended. The staff are very kind "

"I stayed in this fabulous chocolate hotel in early October when I was walking on the Camino way. After a 10 mile day of walking, it was wonderful to get there and berated with a wine spritzer with chocolate shavings, delicious chocolate bar, and a beautiful hotel. The breakfast was included and was absolutely fabulous. I highly recommend this place. "

"The property was fantastic! They went over and above for us when we forgot our swimwear in the town that we stayed the night before by sending one of their staff to pick it up for us. We appreciated it so much and we were able to use their amazing spa they have because of this. Thanks so much!! "
