"The stay was disappointing for a 4-star hotel and felt overpriced for the value and service you get. The sharp mildew smell from the kitchenette basin table top in the bedroom amd the closet behind the shower was unbearable. It seems the aircon also leaks onto the wood. The front door handle was loose as if broken before, which made us uneasy with the intense website warning of potential trespassers. Security at the entrance gate was very friendly, but didn't once scan/record a driver's/car license. Alot of the lady staff have attitude and should go on a friendliness / hospitality etiquette course. "

"Delightfully quirky hotel with comfortable beds and delicious breakfast. Kevin is a mine of useful information and tips about the local area and South Africa in general as well as being an interesting and welcoming host. "

"The only really good thing was the view. The house had no good outdoor furniture and the bbq was unusable because it was so filthy. There was no iron or ironing board, we had been away for over 3 weeks so needed to do laundry and then iron the clothes. There was no safe and you couldn’t put the security alarm on at night without tripping it if someone got up to go to the bathroom. The main bedrooms en-suite and the laundry had loads of ants and we had to buy our own ant spray. The bedding had lots of stains on it which didn’t make you want to use it. The cupboards in the bathrooms were full of dirty products so were unusable and many of the mugs, crockery were chipped. It was also very hard to sleep past around 5.30am because the bedrooms had no blackout blinds. All in all it was not a pleasant stay and would not recommend this house."

"St James was a perfect stay in Knysna - we wished we had booked additional nights, the hotel is a little further out of town but it is quiet, tranquil & the staff were so helpful in organising transport when required. Thanks to Sandy & the team! "
