"If you're looking for an inclusive and peaceful onsen, then this is for you! I was traveling through Hakone that allowing both tattoos and mixed genders. When we posted for advice on different travel sites, most people said "you're looking for a unicorn that might not exist, good luck". "Nice, large Japanese style rooms right on the river. Excellent breakfast, buffet with lots of options for everyone. Easily walkable into town with lots of dining options there, as long as you get there early. (A few are open later). Ping pong table as well; and karaoke rooms (for a fee). We rented the private onsen for an hour for our family, since the kids were shy about using the public ones. "

"Hotel is very close to the ropeway and offers a shuttle bus to the main station which you really do need. Bedding arrangement is hard as a rock so be aware of that. The hotel itself is very dated and no especially clean. However I found that part of the old school charm. The included meals were absolutely outstanding traditional kaiseki style. Worth the price for that alone. "

"Staying at Fukuzumiro was a total experience. We were greeted at the door, removed our shoes, and felt as if we’d gone back in time. Our room faced the river, providing a calming sound backdrop. The shared bathroom is rustic but clean. Breakfast, dinner and an afternoon snack were all served to us while relaxing in our room, and each meal was wonderful. Our room attendant, Akiko, explained bathing etiquette and made us feel at home. Each of the private baths is different— I recommend trying each...

"This is a very nice & quiet ryokan on the way up the mountain in the Mt. Fuji/Hakone region. If you're trying to avoid the crowds down at the bottom (Hakone) or up at the top (Fujikawaguchiko), this place is for you. If you want water, it's near Lake Ashi where you can catch the sightseeing "pirate" ships.
