"Covelo-Original is exactly what a small guesthouse should be. Our stay was perfect. The Covelo is in the heart of old town and steps away from restaurants and just over the bridge is the religious centre. The room had everything needed (fridge, kettle, coffeemaker, all of which aren’t common in a POR room). The bed was incredibly comfortable and the building has been renovated and modernized yet maintains both original and quirky charm. Staff are amazing and they go the extra step providing...

"Lovely family run hotel in the countryside in Arouca! Suite was so clean and comfy and decor was sooo nice! Suite is the only one with a little Kitchenette in, but you can use the kitchen downstairs in the public area too! Very clean and thought of everything! Peaceful and lovely pool! "

"Outstanding welcome! Didi and her family are terrific hosts. She went out of her way to make us feel at home. Thank you! We stayed 5 nights and did not want to leave. The historic house and the pool were wonderful with views of their land and the whole valley."

They certainly live up to that statement, specifically, Claudia, Barbara, and Patricia. The breakfast ingredients were fresh every day. "Lovely older style hotel with a winding wooden staircase up the middle. The elevator/lifts worked well. Service: Great service from the friendly front desk staff. Special shout-out to Vinicius, who was particularly friendly and helpful. Room: The room was on the main floor with a kitchen, living room/lounge, and half bath. Bedroom and full bath one floor down. Very spacious, clean, with cleaning staff every second day. Bathrooms: Half bath was clean and modern. Lower level bathroom had a sink, toilet, shower, and towel drying heater. Modern and clean. Noise Levels: Very quiet. Our room faced the main road, but we didn't notice any noise. Internet: Unsecured, which was concerning. Location: 5-minute walk to the grocery store, 10-minute walk to the major metro station. Great location, 15-minute walk to Ribeira and other attractions. Cafes and restaurants nearby. Amenities: Lovely back courtyard with a pool. Too chilly to use the pool, but enjoyed sitting outside with a drink. Kitchen: Reasonably well-equipped, but the knives were not sharp. No larger style coffee mugs. Value for Money: Good value for the price given its amenities and location. Safety: Felt very safe in the hotel and surrounding area. Extras: Small gym and comfortable lounge area. I would definitely return."

"What we liked is that this was a real neighborhood, not just a tourist area. It was an easy walk from the main train station connecting to Lisbon. the hotel itself is spanking brand new and the bed was big and comfortable. Also less than two blocks away was an amazing local bakery (Chicana) which was amazingly cheap for that quality of pastries, bread and coffee. Their English is limited, but you will be fine. We did breakfast there every day and then walked to the main part of Porto (but we often walk over 20,000 steps a day when we travel -- FYI.)"
