We paid quadruple at other ryokans and this one had the best food, best location and the best onsens. It’s an older place with older, big onsens and for us that was the charm of it. The rooms are very clean, the beds are comfortable. The staff was incredibly kind. We went skiing one day and snowshoeing the next and ended up seeing a red fox each day. Really can’t recommend this...

"The Onsen is nice, staffs are nice, though the hostel is old and some facilities are not clean. Inserts are everywhere. The curry rice dinner tastes unexpectedly well. Bus to Blue Pond depends on the limited schedule. "

The food offered in the standard half board option was ok, not great, very cafeteria like. If you're passing thru the area, it's a good option bc of the onsen, but I wouldn't go out of my way to stay there again."
