The tombs of Archduke Franz Ferdinand and Duchess Sophie Hohenberg are part of a small chapel in the basement level of Austria's Artstetten Castle. History buffs may recall the assassination of the Archduke and his wife Sophie in 1914 during a visit to Serejavo. The assassination, often referred to as "the shot heard round the world," precipitated the Great War, now referred to as World War I. "The hotel has charm and is located quite near the historic old town center and within walking distance to the museums; the staff is friendly and helpful; the breakfast buffet is very nice with a wide selection of foods, very authentic Austrian ambiance to the breakfast and the hotel. The short comings are that there is no kettle or fridge with no food services at the hotel except for the breakfast buffet. The nearby restaurants are expensive though there are a few supermarkets within walking distance."

historic hotel in charming Durnstein

"We had a wonderful stay in this lovely inn. Our room was spacious and comfortable. I could have stayed in all day to enjoy the view of the Danube. Dinner on the terrace was excellent and featured fresh and seasonal dishes. The breakfast buffet offered excellent variety and quality too. "
