"Easily the best place I stayed in whilst in Japan. It’s a ryokan and yet it has full 5 star hotel features. I chose a room with a private outdoor Onsen bath and kaiseki dinner option. Room was huge (75sq/m) with a separate bedroom, living room and sitting area with a wood burner. I started the fire and sat there for hours in between my private lovely hot onsen. "Strange location, near small motorway service area but no access by vehicles to or from it. Huge car parking areas but in March these were virtually empty. Excellent pool/spa and onsen which is free for guests to use and is well used by locals. Posh downstairs lounge area next to restaurant. Staff very friendly and very helpful in the pool/spa area (need a hat for pool/spa but they do lend them. Not enough information given on the restaurant, which was open until 10 pm but took last orders at 8...
