"The two of us stayed at ryokan Reimei at the end of March and we booked the reimei room with an open bath. We had the best experience ever. We could go in for a dip whenever we felt like it. The shower is on the outside with the open bath and the coldness of the weather wasn’t a problem for us since the water of the shower was quite warm and you jump into the onsen right after… (I see lots of comments complaining about that). Dinner/breakfast service time and shuttle bus leaving time was chosen at checkin, we could choose between the times that were convenient for us. The dinner and breakfast were not true kaiseki but it was still delicious and fulfilling. We also brought some pudding from downtown before going to our ryokan and I definitely recommend doing that as there’s no dessert component in the dinner kaiseki. This is not our first ryokan and having an open air bath definitely made the experience 10000 times better!!! We will definitely choose the same room again if we’re coming back to yufuin!! "

"The check-in process was very smooth from the moment we were greeted as our car pulled into the property. We were able to do some pre-check in as we arrived in the morning and allowed to park our cars there as we explored the town and shops. Upon check-in we were provided small gifts (including beautiful small drawstring bags for all the ladies). The room that our party stayed in was on the top floor. we were greeted with a large spacious tatami room with a super high celling. It was one main room with a Kotatsu table (table with a cover & heater underneath to keep those legs/toes warm). But with the table moved to the side of the room (still able to be used) there was plenty of space for 4 beds. Note that you have to set the beds yourself. Meals and the private family baths (which we booked ahead of time, for a 1 hour time slot) were in a separate building with a short walk outside (warm jackets for the Yukata were provided in the room). There was a short March the evening we were there so we enjoyed the onsen with snow gently coming down on us which was AMAZING. Family bath was a good size. There was actually a indoor bath and outdoor bath in the same "private area". Dinner and breakfast were in different buildings but both were beautifully and deliciously laid out meals. The morning breakfast we also had a beautiful snowy morning view which enhanced the whole experience. Short walk down to shopping street and town, also a coin laundry across the street! Great location!"

"Beautiful Ryokan with very friendly and helpful service. We had a room with both tatami and western beds (raised off the ground) which worked very well for the elders in our group that weren't used to sleeping on the ground. No shower/bath in the room as the expectation is to use the public baths (or private family baths which are first come first serve basis). Our group had no issues accessing the private family baths which we preferred. The family onsen was MUCH larger than expected. The dressing room was spacious as well. We enjoyed both in the evening and morning before checkout. The rooms themselves were very comfortable and spacious. Public baths were also clean and beautiful. The meals were also a great experience (both Dinner and Breakfast). They were able to accommodate our group of 9 into a large room and went above and beyond to communicate/explain all the dishes which were all beautifully and deliciously prepared. The view outside was amazing as the Ryokan sat on top of a hill looking down to the town. It's a bit of a walk down to the shopping area (bit over 15 mins) but this meant this location was very quiet and serene. We loved it and would recommend to anyone. "

"The hotel is a bit far from station if you are travelling with large luggage, but the good news are , arranging taxi to the hotel is pretty easy . Rooms are superb, have chosen a smaller room out of all the room option but it’s still way bigger than the one that I have last time in ito. Staff has get the whole room sprayed , so I am so pleased that the whole room is out of bug!"

"I liked that the location is away from the busy are, yet close enough. Good English support. We went up the hill and explored, which I would recomment if you want to get away from the crowd. Just a few good quality shops and art galleries, and restaurants up the hill."

"I stayed for 2 nights and received impeccable service, I ate well, rested well and slept well. I choose the Japanese style room with a mountain view and had a relaxing time soaking at the onsen. They had 3 different area of public bath and I enjoyed the rooftop onsen the most, I even woke up at 6.30am to catch the sunrise with Mount Yufu. The lounge area is so aesthetically pleasing, really calms your soul and allows you to chill and unwind. I went for half board and food was excellent, presentation and taste was perfectly executed, I was so well taken care of by the host and I hope to come back again ^^ Japanese hospitality at its best, will totally recommend Ryokan Hachisunoito! "
