"We got to stay here for the night of news years eve and enjoyed a vegetarian dinner. My husband cannot eat any wheat or gluten so the monks made sure he had a special vegetable dish with no soy sauce. The rooms were at first cold but with the heaters warmed up nicely. The hot baths were nice. We enjoyed walking the town and seeing the various shrines and temples and large cemetery too. The huge cypress trees were amazing. And the cemetery was lit at night too. "I chose this ryokan since it was the only reasonably priced one in the Nara area. It has a beautiful garden just outside our room and the room itself was comfortable and large. The only downside to the place was the strong smell in the room and the cockroach that I had to kill as it crawled across the room."

"It’s worth noting that this is not a normal hotel but a traditional pilgrim’s lodging, so it is expected that you sleep on a mat on the floor and the facilities are relatively basic. You are staying here for the experience. The property was clean with onsen (hot bath) provided and our room had its own toilet/sink. Our only complaint is that they no longer serve food and we were not notified of this despite this being part of our booking, however we found a restaurant for dinner walking distance...

"Service and food were excellent. We had Japanese dinner and breakfast. Each were well prepared and presented. Very walkable area. Private bath was very nice touch after long day of travel and walking around town. "

"Far walk for us and dinner is exotic and different. But absolutely beautiful place. Clean and amazing private onsen. We loved the gift shop and they gave us robes to use. Breakfast buffet excellent. Overall wonderful visit, would recommend and wish i can go again someday. "
