This is a well-designed, clean home with very comfortable beds and a wonderful, well-stocked kitchen. There were also plenty of towels and a high-quality washer and dryer. The hosts are friendly and responsive and allowed us to check in early, which was so nice of them. I loved the ease of keyless check-in, and the convenience of the location for driving to UNCSA and downtown. It is also right by Old Salem.
This may seem like a small thing, but I love that the sofa was leather! In rental homes, fabric sofas often get very dusty and cause allergy attacks. I also loved that the house doesn't have a bunch of throw pillows and rugs collecting dust. Allergy sufferers know what a big deal this is! The decor really seemed to be chosen with cleanliness in mind.
A nice touch: At one point we were lamenting the fact that we hadn't brought playing cards, and then, voila, I saw a set of playing cards on the shelf.
The one downside is that the neighborhood doesn't look very nice at first sight--there's a gas station a couple of houses down on the other side of the street, and because it is on a busy street the zoning doesn't feel entirely residential. Although it probably isn't a neighborhood where you would want your teen to walk around alone, it did feel safe for me to walk during the day. There's a wonderful coffee shop (Bygood Coffee) and bakery (Camino) within a 5-10 minute walk. If you like baseball, there's also a baseball stadium down the street which is used for the local minor league team, which is a fun perk. Downtown is just a five-minute drive away. I had thought It might be noisy due to street traffic, but it isn't noisy at all, it felt quite peaceful.
I love the old brick walls and the yellow door, which makes the house easy to find. Parking is perfect--you pull right in behind the house and your car is tucked away, easy to unload your luggage through the back door.
Finally, let's talk about the terrific beds. My husband wished he had looked at the mattress tag because he wants to buy the exact same mattress for our home. He said it was the best night's sleep he'd gotten in a long time.
