"If you are looking for a vacation location that will refresh your soul, this beautiful vineyard getaway is the place for you! Set in the tiny Village of Provesende, this gorgeously renovated stone hotel overlooks the gentle rolling hills of the Douro Valley. The hotel and working vineyard have long been in the family of the charming Manager, Maria Pinheiro da Veiga. She was an absolute delight to talk with and gave generously of her time and knowledge of the surrounding tight-knit community. We were particularly interested in some peace and quiet after almost 3 weeks touring Italy and Portugal and we found this location a balm for our travel-weary souls. Avid bird watchers, we were entranced by the beauty and impressive variety of birds we could see and hear clearly as there was virtually no traffic sound at all. After we arrived, we sat and enjoyed the beautiful birds for 3 hours before we heard one motorbike drive by. It was sheer bliss! And so was the food! We had the best traditional Portuguese meal prepared on site by their wonderful chef and served to the melodious tunes of Fado over the sound system. They have a beautiful swimming pool, but it was still too chilly to do more than sit by the water and enjoy the fresh air and simple beauty of a place almost untouched by time. Five Stars aren’t enough! "

"Quinta da Gricha is one of those special places that you sometimes stumble upon. What exquisite service. Our view overlooking the most dramatic aspect of the Douro Valley was amazing but. There was so much more. Impeccable service, custom regional dinner with wine from the estate vineyards, the beautiful natural pool that we had all to ourselves, and the lovely staff every single person whether working on the kitchen garden and the vineyards or making the breakfast or greeting us and helping us discover. This was a level above - kindness, value, and quality. We discovered something here unlike every generic hotel you’ve ever been. There is nothing like snapping a ripe orange off the tree as you watch the stunning sunset. Thank you! Obrigada!"

"Pictures of the property in expedia does not make justice of the beautiful place and surroundings. All rooms face the amazing Douro River. Waking up and opening the windows for the sun to come in with the river view was priceless. The nights are so peaceful and quiet. Friends and families stayed with us and loved as well. "This place understands what hospitality is. From the moment we arrived we were welcomed as if it was our home. Our bags were taken to our room and we had a welcome drink on the terrace overlooking the spectacular Douro Valley. We joined other guests for a family style meal and enjoyed getting to know people from many different countries. Amazing place to relax, appreciate the area, with a wonderful team to help with questions and make the visit super comfortable."
