"The positives: The staff were very nice, the shuttle drivers were great and the cabin was clean. It was peaceful and quiet. However, if we had known that the cabin was 2 km away from the hotel, we probably would not have stayed. I booked it because of its proximity to echo land. However, the cabins were located 2 km outside of town, and although there was a shuttle it would’ve been super helpful to have a car. in addition, the cabin was very cold. "Convenient location, close to Tsugaike and Iwatake where the property owner will drop you daily in the morning and pick up in the afternoon on request. The shuttle bus stop to the other resorts is a short walk from the accommodation. Alan is a good host and is very friendly and obliging. He picked us up on short request when we picked up our ski gear on the first day and dropped us off where we wanted to drop our ski gear on the last day. "I really enjoyed my time at Dark Horse. The owner and staff are warm and welcoming, and helped out in many ways, both big and small. Breakfasts and dinners were good and the lounge/dining room was a comfortable place to relax after riding. It was great value for the money. I would recommend it, and would stay there again without hesitation."

"Had a wonderful stay. Amazing to be able to literally ski out the back door onto the piste. Friendly & helpful staff, good value clean with huge & delicious dinners (bit expensive!). 15 min walk from Tsugaike kogen bus stop (other Hakuba resorts + Nagano Station). Private barrel bath room was fun. Enough English spoken that basic communication was not an issue. Discounted lift passes. NB: Lodge takes cards but lots of places don't and NO ATM in village - BRING CASH!!!! Tsugaike kogen is great...

"Our stay at Hakuba House was incredibly homely. Grant and his team are exceptional and went above and beyond to make our stay in Hakuba the best it could be. It was great to be able to come home after a day on the slopes and relax by the fire with a drink from the bar. Hakuba house is conveniently located near to shuttles and restaurants, and the staff were happy to drop us to dinner and make reservations for restaurants and Onsens. "

"This is claimed to be ski-in/ski-out, it is not! More like walk far ski less... There are plenty lodges / hotels / inns that are nicer and have much more to offer which are much closer to the lifts... yes, this location is closest to the slopes by sight and air distance, but unless you have the means to jump 50 meters with a height to clear a gondola, you're better off choosing different accommodation ;-) They also claim full continental breakfast...That must be the joke of this century!...

"Would definitely stay here again. The location was just soooo mint. Walking distance to the bus to all the ski spots and walking distance to so many restaurants. It was perfect. "

"Situated 300m walk from ski lift/gondola and the ticket office (just carry skis/snowboard across the carpark and you're there), this hostel is clean and well set up. Mens and womens toilets separated. Unisex showers with antechamber. Communal mirror/handbasin area. Communal kitchen downstairs. Breakfast is plain but healthy (sliced ham, assorted vegetables, soup, yoghurt, cereal, bread (couple of types) and jam, tea/coffee). Very good for a bargain basement place - I will likely come back again! Oh, and they can sell Tsugaike lift tickets at discount price!"

"Excellent and friendly staff, always eager to help with any questions. Shuttle is great. Loved that the ski rental shop is right in the hotel. I wish the hot springs was a bit bigger and had more amenities but it was a nice way to relax after a day of skiing. The bar and restaurant is not open during the day which we didn’t realize. All in all a great hotel though."
