My friends and I absolutely loved our time at this property in Tulum. The location is perfect - walking distance to so many good bars and restaurants and nightclubs. Even grocery stores and good shopping are right there. The beachfront access is incredible. The property itself is very clean and orderly. Muchas gracias!

Tulum family trip
We had an amazing time at this beachfront property. This was a prime location on a beautiful (and swimmable) beach with high-end but retreat type shopping and boutique hotels surrounding it. All of the staff were very responsive and attentive and daily housekeeping service was provided. They many beds were perfect for our group of 6. The owner was so hospitable (without being overbearing), offering to personally show us his town and making up an authentic mexican breakfast. Keep in mind that this property is a bit rustic so you need to be OK with that. It is solar powered so you may lose power for a bit as they need to transition to a generator at times. Also, there is no oven (pretty common in Mexico) and the propane stove is a step up from a large camp stove. You have to walk through one of the bedrooms/bathroom to get to one of the others. This bathroom does not have a door - so one must be flexible when it comes to privacy.

What a gem! Perfect location! Great staff!
The location was perfect and everything was within walking distance. The beach is literally your backyard, yet private even with a few neighbors around. The property is gated and can only be accessed with your own keys. I can’t say enough about the staff keeping the property clean and always responsive no matter the time of day. They even accommodated personal requests. In fact we only saw the staff when they cleaned or when we made a request. Based on the reviews i read before booking and our experience, they cater to guests’ specific needs when asked promptly. I can’t say enough about the cleanliness, the communication and the location. I can tell they put in a lot of time and effort to provide guests with a 5 star experience. My only recommendations are: - add air conditioning especially for hotter seasons. Every room had fan and kept the place cool along with the breeze from the beach but AC would be great. -Power went out a few times but i also noticed backup generators that kept everything running. - Upgrade kitchen equipment and coffee maker for coffee lovers. - Also no TV. We didn’t care but those with kids would. With that said, if you are looking for a great location, super clean and awesome staff, this villa is perfect with plenty of room!

Even better than the pictures
I searched long and hard for a nice place to take my family in Tulum. We're a family of six with four kids (23, 21, 18, and 15 - girl, boy, girl, boy). We flew into Cancun from Maryland and rented a van and drove to Tulum. We stopped off along the way in Playa de Carmen for a late lunch and some high energy fun. We arrived as it was getting dark so we were a bit worried about finding it. Luis, the building supervisor, met us at the gate to let us in. (Let me also mention that Luis is AWESOME. He is friendly, attentive and responsive to any needs, and has a great attitude. He kept our beach clean and clear of any seaweed, moved our cushions back and forth to the waterfront palapas, and always has a smile. And why wouldn't he? He works in Paradise. The owner, Luu, is awesome as well. She is truly vested in our family's best interest and aims to please - but again, this place does most of the work by itself) Our girls had their own KING size bed EACH in their own room w their own bathroom, the boys had their own bed (one was a double bed, the other a single) and their own bathroom, and my wife and I took the back bedroom, queen bed, with its own bathroom. The setup was perfect. The living area was huge and enjoyed every day and night. We made breakfast every morning. There is a store about 8 minutes away by car and it is a Mexican Super WalMart w/ EVERYTHING you could possibly need. (you can't buy beer until after 9 AM. Lol. My bad on that one. And btw, a 12 pack of Corona was $5! Also: bring Mexican pesos instead of US dollars - they go farther). Renting a van was A LOT easier than I anticipated. It made us very portable. Every day was a different adventure: many cenotes to explore (you HAVE to see and experience them!), Tulum ruins, natural parks, fishing trips, snorkeling, the WORKS. I have two Vegans in the family and there were TWO outstanding vegan restaurants within walking distance from the place: "Restaurau" and "Charlie's Vegan Tacos". And Charlie is a super cool dude. Each meal we had was a good as the next and there are SO many to choose from. There is a brick oven pizza place about 150 steps away (where my kids hit three different times late!). The concrete deck is about 45 steps to the water. Palapas and beach recliners are for US and us only to use. There is a beachfront bar next door! And boy do the stars fill the night sky. Amazing. Man, this was fun to write as I revisited Tulum and our awesome vacation.

Charming Rustic house in unbeatable location
The house was exactly as expected from the pictures- quite roomy and rustic Mexican style. The backyard is literally the beach with private palapas and sunbeds for the property in an amazing location. The owners and staff were great, super helpful. Recommend getting a chef in to cook breakfast for large parties.. Great food and awesome to start each day. We also has a few lunches made for us at the house. House is quite breezy so tolerable without airconditioning if you're used to sleeping with just fans. Overall great house, recommend it.

A wonderful property and a wonderful experience
I recently celebrated my 40th birthday party here, and our group (of ten) had an amazing time. The property owner Luu, who lives nearby, was a beautiful woman with a generous spirit. The house has a spectacular view, literally on the beach, and is a one of a kind, even in beautiful Tulum. The beds were comfortable, the house well out-fitted, and the whole experience was a 10 out of 10. Our entire group had an amazing experience. We can not wait to return. Highly recommended. Thanks, David

Perfect Accommodations/ Amazing Host
a gem - Luu's love for this place is evident and her generosity of spirit knows no boundaries- We were lucky to be here during the equinox/full moon and celebrated the time toasting to the moon and witnessing the local kiters on the water until the sun came up! And thanks to Luu for suggesting Tabano for dinner and for arranging a taxi to pick me up at 3 am so I could catch a flight! The BEST!

Gorgeous home, AMAZING hosts
Luu and her daughter are the loveliest hosts, they are such kind, positive energy people..I can't wait to go back. Her staff at the home are sooo nice as well, very attentive and there when you need them but I rarely actually saw them.. so it was extremely private. We stayed in Luu's house after moving from Akumal to Tulum on our vacation (we found that Tulum was a much better choice!) . I had stayed at Luu's resort years and years ago and always remembered how gracious and kind they were. I kept her email for over 13 yrs and contacted her to find a place to stay in Tulum for a few days. She was incredibly accommodating, responsive and her place was beautiful, clean and in the coolest spot in Tulum. We learned to kitesurf very nearby her beach, the restaurants and cool little beach bars were all within walking distance. This place is perfect for families with kids, singles with friends, multi-family..basically anyone..she has spots for every type of group or couple. The bar at the resort just to the south at the next resort was so cool, a great place to enjoy a late afternoon cerveza or their daily special, some sort of fresh juice plus + (playing the hippest coolest music around..) we found ourselves swinging on the beach bar swings daily! ) . My husband took a kitesurfing lesson that was excellent right out steps away from her beach. Our fav restaurant was Posada Margarita's made from scratch Italian food (I had been there when they opened years ago and the same italian's own the restaurant and the same care is taken to everything being homemade down to the pasta), I highly recommend it! We also went to Mateos on the jungle side for a sunset cocktail, you climb up basically a treehouse and they have a rooftop bar that looks over the jungle with a sunset view..spectacular! We tried to get into Heartwood restaurant but found out you have to go at 3pm to get on their list for the night..I have heard it's amazing and would do that on my next visit. We seriously cannot wait to go back to Tulum, it's the coolest place around ...lots of very health conscious people, yoga lovers, relaxing, kitesurfing, cenote(cave snorkeling and diving), adventure, gorgeous water, no high rises..all cool little places along the beach.. only solar power, wind power and some of the larger places have generators but Luu's place had plenty of warm water, cold fridge, gas stove, all that you need for a group, family or like us, a couple and we just ate out! Thank you Luu!!!

Tulum on the beach
My family, which essentially included three couples, and one ten month old baby, were comfortably accommodated. The layout, three bedrooms each with a bathroom, is excellent providing privacy. Lu the owner was responsive and helpful throughout our visit. There are challenges associated with the tropical climate and Tulum infrastructure, but the view and access to the beach made these inconveniences negligible. We were sad to leave.

Tulum is great. This place is not
Tulum itself is unbeatable for it's combination of great beaches and ocean, relaxed funk ambiance, and great restaurants scattered along the beach, but Retiro Maya needs to substantially up its game before I would consider staying there again. We rented the 3 bedroom Casa with 2 other couples. The location is outstanding, just steps from the beach...but with a private deck and a small play area sheltered from view by a berm and vegetation...but retaining wonderful views of the sea. The space in the Casa is good, with a large living area/kitchen and 3 comfortable bedrooms. The only layout problem is that you have to walk through 1 bedroom...or walk outside and unlock a separate entrance...to get to the 3rd bedroom. Updated, and with better management, this could be a great place. But it's not now. What didn't we like? In brief: For the first 5 days, we had no hot water and the cold water barely dripped from the showers. We had one of the staff look at this problem the first full day there and they told us it that this was a good as it gets. So we decided to make do. But five days in it got so bad no one could really shower...and the women couldn't was their hair... so we complained energetically...and luckily connected with Alex...and he brought several people in. Finally, one of the staff discovered that the hot water to the Casa just hadn't been turned on...and after that...and we had reasonable water...thought even then only 2 of the 3 showers were really usable. And in the course of the repair, one of the guys told Alex in Spanish (thinking we wouldn't understand) that he'd been told not to turn it on. When we complained about this to Luu, she blamed us for not complaining loudly enough in the beginning....and walked away. And then there we the toilets that didn't fully flush...even after 1/2 dozen tries...leaving floaters ever present. And then the snake we killed in the bedroom, scattered roaches, and our rat. The rat showed up the first day and snacked on bananas...and by the second day had gotten into the cabinets and our chips and crackers. On complaint, a half-hearted effort was made by putting a few traps around, but in the end I had to hunt him down myself with a butcher knife. The staff were helpful in removing him and cleaning the floor and the knife. And then there was the fact that they weren't ready for us when we arrived. The place was dirty, the refrigerator had been unplugged, etc. etc. Once the got up to speed,

Culture, cuisine, and stunning Caribbean blue water and white sand beaches.
Great house! Terrific owner! Wonderful location! The house was booked for some of the week of our visit so Luu was nice enough to place us in one of her beach front cabana's next door. You get the best of both worlds with the privacy of a house to cook or the option of going to her beach bar (Cerveza, guacamole, Ceviche) or authentic taco restaurant (home made tortias) . Only regret is that by posting this glowing review others will discover and then it will be harder to come back! Warning: Over weight folks who are addicted to AC might find the temperature and humidity uncomfortable. Give it a day or two and you will acclimate. Terrific experience.. Ocean right out the door, variety of tulum restaurants and spas just down the beach. A+ rating.

Fabulous Time!
I was staying in the third bedroom in the house: very cozy, very comfortable. I was literally a hop, skip, and a jump from the beach. I had electricity all the time, internet all the time, a lovely, lovely room with a closet and drawers for my clothes. Fresh sheets & towels, my own private bathroom. Tremendous! The only problem I had was that there wasn't any hot water when I arrived. I told the staff about it, they said they would fix it right away--and they did! They couldn't have been more professional or friendly. Oh, and that hot water came with great water pressure, too! The beach is so wonderful! The sand so soft, the water so blue. You can walk to all the other hotels on the beach to try out different restaurants but you can always eat at Retiro Maya (the food is always fresh and tasty!) I am not a big drinker so I can't comment on the bar here. Nor did I do any yoga. There's a bike at the hotel next door, a taxi was there whenever I needed it. I just had no complaints and would definitely stay there again.

My stay in Retiro Maya was really good, the place is super well located, it´s in front of the beach, the house it was big an espacious. The service was relly good, all the people where helpful and nice, as well as the owner, she is really cool and gives good advices for different activities and retaurants. The only complains that I have is that the ceviche in the restaurants some days where really good and some not so good. As well I had problem in my room that due the amount of rain that fell from the sky, the water came in, but after two days they where able to restore it. Relly good place to stay.

EXPECTATIONS EXCEEDED
I stayed in the house for a week with 6 friends. All of our expectations were exceeded. The pictures don't do the house justice. The beds, pillows, and all the amenities were brand new. It even included turn down service every day. The hose has daily maid service. The ladie kept the house spotless (We had to do the dishes). And of course there's the beach right out front and good food and drinks right next door. All around, the place was everything I was looking for for a getaway with close friends, and I'd love to visit it again.

17 days of absolute relaxation
My wife, three young boys (5, 3 and 1), my parents and I just returned from a wonderful 17-day stay at this wonderful home. We have been to Tulum numerous times and just love it and staying at this house made our trip even more enjoyable as the place is big and roomy and very comfortable especially for families. There are three large bedrooms, each with their own bathroom, ceiling fans and plenty of light. The living room is enormous, there is 10-person dinnig table, a large deck and, of course, it's all on the beach accessed by a wall of glass. The views are amazing. Being right on the beach, we could roll right out to the sand every morning without and hassle. Beach chairs, umbrellas, towels and everything else you need are right there as is the restaurant at the hotel next door. In addition to the house itself, the location is great for travel into the town and to all of the other sites, restaurants and activities you may want to check out. Our service was fantastic: The staff is extremely friendly and accommodating and the place was cleaned top to bottom every day and they even did the windows once a week. We were also fortunate enough to hire Jesus as our cook for four days which was a treat as his cooking is excellent. There is nothing I could improve upon with this house: It was everything we wanted and was hard to leave. Please feel free to contact me for additional information if you are considering this house.
