I'm hesitant to recommend Takayama because one of its charms is that it is off the beaten track, and who wants more people there to spoil this? But, in truth, the town is a wonderful place, and this hotel was very good. We came from Tokyo so were delighted to find a very large room, very clean, and very comfortable. The hotel is right next to the train and bus station so could not be more convenient, and within easy walking distance of just about everything that Takayama has to offer, including eating places, the historic district, and museums and shopping. Hida Folk Village is about 1.2 km away, and easily accessible by bus, but we decided to walk. Definitely worth looking at. The historic district is fantastic and the main shopping street very interesting. The staff at the hotel were friendly and approachable, and the room super comfortable. There are no breakfast options, but there is an excellent coffee/breakfast place next door. All in all, an excellent experience in Takayama itself and at this hotel.

Lovely hotel with kitchenette and in-room laundry facilities located close to the train and bus station. The hotel’s location made this a great base for making day-trips to surrounding areas. Walking around Takayama itself was also a breeze. Front desk staff were always super friendly and helpful. Rooms were clean, comfortable and tidy. Check-in and check-out process was efficient. Housekeeping options were brilliant – loved the choices that we had as well as the method of communication (attaching one of three magnetised signs to the door). Thank you so much for a very pleasant 6-night stay, Residence Hotel Takayama Station!

The staff could speak conversational English and provided us with information of the attractions and eating places. The hotel is just next to the train station and short wakiing distance to the historical streets and morning market. The hotel also offered complimentary mini bar such as soft drinks and local wines. If there is an onsite onsen, it will be perfect. The partner'sonsen serviceus a distbce away and we couldn't park there.

My stay here was very comfortable. My room (with a single bed) felt massive compared to all others I stayed at in Japan, making it a good choice for both short- and long-term stays. (I stayed for two nights.) The overall decor/vibe felt a little older/more stale than I was expecting, but ultimately I wasn't in Takayama to sit around in a hotel room. The kitchenette and washer/dryer were both great; it does take a while to get clothes dry, but that seems standard for washer-dryer combos. Bonus points for the multi-USB charging cable. The location of the hotel is perfect: super close to the train station, which meant I didn't have to drag my bags across town like I saw so many others doing. The immediate area is a bit ugly (as it usually is near train stations), but Takayama is so walkable that it doesn't matter. I didn't have many interactions with staff, as my room was on the second floor and I always used the stairs and side entrance, but check-in and check-out were both super speedy, which I appreciated. One thing that irked me was that there was always laundry in the hallway. Always. No matter the time of day or night, there were bags of laundry outside my door. Maybe they don't have better storage options? Still, it felt unprofessional. And the linens themselves all smelled like tempura shrimp, as if the cleaners was next to a tempura restaurant. Very strange. But, overall, still a nice stay! Good value for the money.

Very good experience, nice comfortable beds, very spacious room with kitchen and laundry machine. It was definitely very convenient to have washing/drying machine in the bedroom, laundry detergent was provided, awesome! Over all very good, place is not fancy but it has everything you need. It was clean but cleaning needs improvement in some areas, specially shower door.

It was very well located just past the train and bus station. There were multiple grocery stores 15-20min walk away and a family mart across the road. Most of Takayama was within walking distance and we visited Hida no Sato easily via bus. The apartment was spacious with a double bed and 2 twin beds and had a full kitchen with a fridge, stove and microwave, utensils and basics like oil, salt and pepper supplied. There was a good bathroom, dining table, a washer/dryer (with detergent) and a balcony. The apartment was on the top floor and very quiet for it's location however there was only 1 lift so there was usually a wait. Having the double bed in its own room was a nice touch however a small sofa near the television would be good. The sorting of rubbish was a bit unclear .

Very helpful staff. Room is spacious and clean. Only thing we are disappointed is the tissues box was empty on first night (not much left in the box), they cleaned the room daily and it never gets refilled on the 2nd and 3rd day. We have to use toliet roll as tissues in the room.

The hotel is pretty much next to the JR terminal and bus station, super convenient. Yet, it is very quiet inside the unit, we never got woken up by street noises. We enjoyed our stay very much, our unit was quite spacious and beds were comfortable. We loved having the kitchen where we prepared a few delicious meals; although the kitchen can be stocked with more utensils, bowls, pots, etc. The laundry unit seems brand new, super helpful to be able to do our laundries inside (except it took awhile to dry the clothes.) Also, enjoyed the daily onsen at their partnered hotel nearby, just wished that it was next door. We will definitely recommend the Residence Hotel to others and will stay here again if we're visiting Takayama!
