The staff was very friendly in a not intrusive way. We felt this comes from the heart.
Wonderful (if you like Japanese) food.
t was a wonderful stay and we would go there again.
By far the crown jewelry of our honeymoon stays. Thowe the cost may give you hart burn the expense I would not trade for 2x the cost. It was the most spiritual stop on our trip, i felt like a royalty wail there. They have everything you need and they are located close to many cool attractions.
You will be treated and served like a king. Ladies can choose your favourite colorful kimono and they will service you to wear it on in your room. A well-prepared Kaiseki dinner we’ve never experienced before. It’s really value for money :)
The staff were extremely attentive and helpful. They took care to adjust the kaiseki meals to the tastes of our 9 yo daughter. When we arrived well before check-in, they collected our luggage from the bus station and drove us down to the gorge. After a delicious meal, the drove us to and from the Kagura. Everything about the stay was wonderful.
They treat you like a king!
They have amazing breakfast and dinner ceremonies :
each dish is a masterpiece of culinary art ( and there
are like 9-10 courses consisting of small appetizer size
dishes)
Food is delicious and very healthy but still filling and is
served in style - beautiful plates, each dish design is carefully arranged on the plate to create esthetic
appeal
You live in a tradition setting little house with your
own private zen garden, hot tub on the back patio,
Inside the house spacious rooms looks like Japanese history museum and
there is 2 options - you can sleep on the mattress
traditional style or on the bed - both very comfortable
There is a bathroom and restroom inside and another
restroom in a small structure right outside of the patio in the back just in case
Staff is very helpful in terms of guidance where to
go in the area for more attractions besides Takashiho gorge ( which is 25 min walk from the hotel) -
and they can arrange taxi to mount Aso, taxi to view sunrise over the mountains and taxi to view rice fields - all unforgettable experience and photo opportunities
And obviously the gorge itself located close by is amazing especially boat ride
So to summarize- even though it takes 3 hours by
bus to get there from Fukuoka to see the Takashiho
gorge it is this kind of special hotel experience that
makes it worthwhile because it creates a harmony
between enjoying nature and enjoying unique hotel
amenities
The hotel staff were very accommodating and friendly. The food was spectacular. Everything about this stay was awesome. I would go back, and although it was expensive, it was well worth the money (10 course dinner and ~6 course breakfast included). We were able to get by okay with English which was nice. There was a private outdoor hot tub and indoor shower that connected to the outside. Nice little Japanese garden in our backyard of our room. We went to the Shrine in the evening and they dressed us up in Yukata's to attend. This was very fun.
The staff was wonderful, the food excellent, but the room was a disappointment. It was kind of a cross between a log cabin and Trader Vic’s. There were two tree trunks used as part of a room divider, and a faux skylight above the middle of the room. Quite odd. Couldn’t justify the expense even as a splurge.
