Service was outstanding. Staff was wonderful. However the fact that you have to shower in three inches of water and the air conditioning literally made me ill (very obviously hasn’t been cleaned in a decade) took away from the experience. The location is premier, right by an MRT stop and walking distance from Taipei Main Station. If you don’t care about comfort at all, its perfect.
Stay here if you want to deal with a sore back from the stiff beds, warm AC, and mosquitoes biting you in the room. There is a strong musty smell and the room looks very outdated. This is NOT 3 star hotel. It’s like staying at a motel. Booked for 5 nights, checked out after 2 nights. Property refused to refund the unused nights. Stayed at a different 3 star property and the difference is astounding. So glad we checked out early.
Pros:
- bathroom was decently sized
- bed was fairly comfortable
- big desk to work at
- really convenient location; super close to the Zhongshan mrt, very close to family mart, very close to some good restaurants, pretty close to shopping malls
Cons:
- toiletries were small packets that are kind of junk to use
- the room smelt terrible. Needed to buy an air freshener to help with the smell
- key had to be returned to the front desk
- no power remained on when you left the room, so you could not charge anything; wifi did stay on
- slowest lift on earth
Hotel was alright for the price. The check in time is extremely strict and I wasn’t allowed to check in 20 min before their check in time, which isn’t usually a big deal in most hotels… I mean, 20 min… really? They offered to hold my luggage but they do not put it away in a room or a closet, they just leave it sitting in the middle of the lobby for anyone to take. Not a great first impression. Elevator is slower than Christmas, the hallway carpets desperately need to be redone, and the shower temperature fluctuates uncomfortably. Overall the room was clean though and in decent condition.
I looked forward to staying at this hotel as it has become so famous in my home territory as the place where the murder happened that started the on-going riots in Hong Kong. I'm not afraid of ghosts so no problem for me. Nice staff and well located place. However, whenever you go out of the hotel you need to leave the key. However, on return staff never ask for any form of verification. That means that basically anyone could walk in, say the room number and then get the key. This would be a big problem if the staff don't recognise the guests and especially so with western tourists because tin the eyes of the Chinese staff, everyone looks the same. By the way, the air-con has no remote and the control is pretty vague; it's either too hot or too cold.
I'd like to rate everything about this hotel more than average, except for several mosquitos which annoyed us all through the night. Funny for winter, in a place without any canals or ponds around. We swatted three, but there were more. Bummer.
Otherwise, a nice and friendly hotel.
Highly recommended for solo travellers and couples
A cosy and affordable little establishment. Strategically located around local eateries, shopping malls and ZhongShan mrt station. It's within walking distance to Taipei Main Station but just far enough from the hustle and bustle of city traffic. There's even a park directly in front of the hotel entrance if you just wanna chill.
The hotel location is right in front of the R3 entrance (Zhongsan Underground Street), which is just 4-5 minutes walking to the MRT station. There is a Family Mart within 100m and many fast foods (McDonald, KFC, Subway etc) within walking distance (5-10 minutes).
The staff is very friendly, check-in/ out process is FAST and hassle-free.
Everything is good except the hotel condition, it's slightly OLD.
If you like NEW hotel, please skip this. Otherwise, it's a good choice for budget travelers...
Good location between 2 subway stations with 7Eleven and family mart and local foods and major shopping nearby. it is a bit far away from Airport Express Station, so we ended up calling a cab for NT80 to station.
