Jianshan is a great choice for a Taipei hotel. Fast check in, amazing friendly staff, nice facilities, cool look and also virtually sound proof to the busy streets around. They kindly stored our bike boxes so we could cycle tour around Taiwan. We are naturally staying there when we return to Taipei.
Great location and friendly staff.
I'd definitely like to stay again.

Nice, quaint little place, great location near local eateries, a convenience store, a laundromat. 6-8 minute walk from an MRT station. Love the theme and decor. No elevator, though the receptionist carried my luggage up for me. My only concern was that the power went out twice on the second day of my stay -- once in the morning and once in the afternoon. It was just for a few minutes and an emergency light came on, but it was still an inconvenience.
The room was clean and tea and water were provided but the space was tiny. The staircase was steep and uneven to the top floor and no warning was given about the sleeping arrangements on platforms which would not have suited many.

Nice boutique hotel but didn't like stairs & room was too small. Also didn't like climbing ladder for bunk bed. Location was very good & hotel was clean
Excellent people. Very helpful and they just want to make you feel welcome. They really go beyond to help you with options and suggestion. This place will give you a little oriental classic ambiance.
I had the chance to experience the stay in different room. The small room is definitely small. There is no space for us to put our luggage in the room. The bigger room is definitely much comfortable.
For improvement, the bedsheet was a little rough and I hope to have 4 pillows instead otherwise it will be a perfect stay.
Overall, still value for money. Paul was really great and thoughtful. He even gave us some washing detergent for our laundry. We wanted to stay for more days but room was occupied.
Jian Shan Hotel might not be a big brand-name hotel, but it has become my favorite hotel in the world (and I've traveled a lot). I've tested out other similarly-priced hotels in Taipei (and ended up in some weird places), and I have never found a better value for the prices they offer.
I've stayed at Jian Shan 3 times since 2016 (13 nights total), and I plan to stay there again.
Here are the reasons I love Jian Shan:
- Super friendly, helpful staff. Last time the desk manager recognized me and was really nice to me. New staff are also friendly. The boss was even friendly when I saw him work night shifts a few times.
- Super clean
- Daily room service if needed, with free water bottles and tea
- Super reasonable price
- Cool retro decor, recently renovated
- Amazing location walkable to 迪化街,大稻埕,寧夏夜市,and 延三夜市. Supermarket is a 1 min walk away. 大龍街 is also not far away. MRT is walkable.
- Across the street is 24/7 世界美食總匯 -- crazy amount of food choices with good Taiwanese breakfast options and reasonable prices (not sure if English is supported)
- Quiet, despite having a temple nearby. I never had trouble with noise, even when facing the street.
- Lots of history and culture in this location if you research it
There is no elevator, but they will carry your bags up and down for you.
I truly love staying at Jian Shan, and I will be staying there again. I have never found a better value for the prices they offer. I highly recommend staying here!
Well decorated place with antique look and feel. Love the unique experience sleeping on top of a double decker bed.
Need strong legs to climb the stairs as there isn't any elevator.

Fantastic stay! During my 2 nights stay I've met 3 staff at the counter and they were all extremely friendly! The room was tiny but very comfortable with almost everything you need and a great shower! I stayed in a room with a unique setting, a upper deck bed and below it has a big space for your luggage but I do wish that that bottom area was a little brighter. And the tv tends to self reset quite often.
Highly recommended for those who loves boutique hotels!
Staff (Paul) is super friendly and share a lot of food information, he event helped me in finding a lot of travel informations before I travel to Alisan, thumbs up.
Good location
Polite and helpful staff
The decorations are in vintage with actual things putting into the hotel room.
The hesitation is the hotel in 5 store and with no escalator Making me not able to recommend to my mother or her friends.
Located in one of the first developed areas in Taipei city in the past, the hotel sets the tone with a retro vibe through the design details, especially the inviting lobby that provides a cool photo-opp for those who wants to be a bit nostalgic about the good old days. Travellers can also easily immerse themselves in leisure street walk around the corner. Kudos for the clean room and the friendly staff members too.
Staff were very friendly and even allowed us to check in before the front desk opened very early in the morning as that was when our flight arrived. The room and bathroom was small, but very clean and was styled uniquely and extremely good value for money. The hotel was in the historic part of Taipei and there were many shops and eateries within walking distance and was a great area to explore.
