We enjoyed our stay. This is a beautiful house, and it is lovely to have seven bedrooms for 11. There is not a conventional stovetop or oven. people. Note th We would stay here again.
The house was beautiful, absolutely gorgeous. If you like historic properties, you will love this place.
Our issue, however, was the bathroom situation. The house has 1 teeny-tiny shower and 3 powder rooms. The listing should better reflect that. shojld
We came in for some meetings for work. The only downside to the house is that there’s only one tiny shower with low water pressure. We made it work though. It was an awesome house to stay in & I’d definitely stay there again!

Family stay at the historic Conkling Home
This is an amazing opportunity to stay at an historic home blocks away from the significant sites in Springfield. If you enjoy history and hold homes---this is pretty cool. The home has been beautifully restored to give you both a sense of history, but also to be quite functional for today (mostly). The furnishings and decor are exceptional as the photos portray.
The one thing that was not a pleasant suprise: the listing notes that the property features 7 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms and can accommodate up to 13 guests. With that description, it was not great to arrive and realize there is one small shower to accommodate up to 13 people. We had our extended family staying together in this beautiful home for a funeral. So one shower for everyone to get ready for an event was not a disaster---we constructed a tight schedule---but I feel to advertise a capacity of 13, but not state there is only one shower out of 4 bathrooms is misleading. Correspondence with the property manager (?) was sparse and not helpful to our situation.
That aside, this was an amazing home to stay and enjoy with our extended family.
Deceptive Listing and Uncaring and Unresponsive Host
If you'd like 12 people sharing ONE shower and a makeshift kitchen for a week, without air conditioning for three out of a five-day stay, then this property is just what you are looking for. Host lives in Washington state. We arrived for a convention to find a tiny, 2'x2' shower in one bathroom on the second floor. Other 3 "bathrooms" only have a sink and a toilet. The "kitchen" is actually a room with a refrigerator, microwave, filthy toaster oven and a hot plate. The "sink" is a 12"x12" bar sink in a hallway off the "kitchen". The dishwasher is IKEA apartment-sized, and not even big enough to wash coffee cups used in one day. No oven, so cooking actual food was not an option. The a/c was out when we arrived - it was 88 degrees in the house. The host advised us to open the windows (it was 90 degrees outside). Day 2, claimed it was fixed - but had only sent a housekeeper to check it. That night, host just stopped returning phone calls and text messages until VRBO made him call back. Repairman arrived at 10:30PM, and after midnight he told us that it was a serious repair, and would have to come back to fix it. Finally fixed on day three of four-night stay. Worst stay ever. We were refused a refund, and are currently pursuing a small claims suit against VRBO and the host. Rent at your own risk.
