Scarlet Oak: Ground level suite in a heritage country home and garden.

Scarlet Oak is a 1930's country home on the old Kirby Shingle Mill site, nestled under boughs of a heritage Scarlet Oak tree amid towering cedars, firs, and Pacific Dogwoods. The one+ acre property is known as one of Sooke's beautiful old gardens, and has been featured on the Sooke Secret Garden tour.

A variety of wildlife visits Scarlet Oak, and is a favourite stop over for migrating birds. This is a private gated property on a quiet street - on a popular local bike route just steps to the Galloping Goose Trail. The walking/cycling Trail can take you to the Sooke Pot Holes Regional Park over a railway trestle, and stretches as far away as Victoria. We are getting a number of guests riding bikes from Vancouver to Scarlet Oak, via BC Ferries, Lochside Regional trail, and Galloping Goose.

Your private spacious "no stairs" suite contains a full kitchen and is always supplied with coffee beans, teas and sugar. Soaps, shampoo/conditioner, and laundry soap are also provided.

Scarlet oak is a very nice secluded spot. The hosts are very good, the place itself is very well appointed and very comfortable for two people. We thought it was excellent. I hope we stay longer next visit.

Beautiful and welcoming stay
Nancy and Tony were extremely friendly and welcoming and made us feel like we were staying at a friend’s house rather than a vacation rental. The property is beautiful and was great to walk around in, and the suite itself was full of amenities and very comfortable. We very much enjoyed our stay and will be back next time we visit Sooke!

This property is beautiful and the living space is well set up and so comfortable. Tony and Nancy are friendly and helpful hosts. Their place is in a great location near the Galloping Goose trail and not far from town. I would highly recommend a stay here.

The unit is large, clean and modern. The kitchen has everything you need to cook your meals. Bed is super comfortable. Hosts are very friendly and informative. Highly recommend! Great location - right on the Galloping Goose trail and close to Sooke Potholes Park - lots to discover. Our best VRBO stay by far!

We enjoyed hearing about the history of the place. The gardens are lovely, too bad we didn’t see them in the spring. The suite is very quaint with everything you might need. I like having the games available to play.

Nancy and Tom have put together a beautiful home away from home for their guests. The kitchen is fully equipped, the tub is amazing. The outdoor sitting area is as lovely as it looks. Tom and Nancy are wonderful responsive hosts. I had the best sleep, the bed is so comfy. It was just what I needed.

This suite was amazing. Nancy and Tony put so much into making this place feel like home for their guests. They were very gracious hosts and we loved their property and also their two sweet dogs. The guest suite was exceptionally maintained and stocked with all of the essentials you would need. The property is steeped in local heritage. The property is located close enough to amenities in Langford including a Costco and any other shopping stop you would need. It is also relatively close to some stunning provincial parks and beaches as well as hiking trails and lakes/streams.

Two night stay was not long enough.
We received a warm, personal welcome from the hosts and were shown around the property, which was exceptionally clean, very spacious for two people with every amenity you could want plus lots of homely touches which made us feel 'at home' right away and throughout our stay. Tony and Nancy were very helpful and friendly, giving us lots of information and guidance as to where to go and what is in the area to enjoy. They have a wonderful garden which they encouraged us to relax in. Having only set up the property this year, they have well and truly nailed the visitor experience by thoughtfully providing what they would expect and enjoy themselves. They are clearly passionate about giving people a great holiday experience. If we ever get back to Vancouver Island we would want to stay again, perhaps for a bit longer next time.

Not Long Enough
Next time I will plan to have more time spent at this location. We were visiting old time friends, celebrating birthdays and an anniversary in town. The plush bed made me want to sleep in longer. Also buy some steaks and enjoy the BBQ next time too. Very clean and comfortable. I highly recommend staying here if you are looking for some peaceful and relaxing moments. Beautiful gardens to walk through too. Kimberly & Steve

Don’t hesitate to book this gem!
Our stay at Scarlet Oaks has got to be one of the most comfortable ever—from the absolutely warm welcome we received from our hosts and their two canine ambassadors to the perfection of the apartment. You can tell it was done with love and great attention to detail, there wasn’t anything lacking at this place. The kitchen had everything you need to cook. So quiet, clean and beautifully decorated yet homey enough to relax in the gorgeous surroundings. Hope this doesn’t sound too over the top but Scarlet Oak created a very high standard! Not to mention being right by the Galloping Goose bike trail—so convenient! West Coast Bike rentals even delivered right to our door, super nice guy! If we’re ever lucky enough to be in the area, there’ll be no question where we’re staying!
