Villa Milos is is a marvelous property with easy access to Glossa and beyond
We learned quickly that the pictures hardly do the property justice. The rooms are spacious and well appointed, and the amenities excellent. The villa is well designed, with natural lighting and beautiful views of Aeagean and surrounding islands from every room. The exterior spaces -- the patio, the, pool and the barbeque -- are modern and private, and offer the promise of a cool dip on a hot afternoon or a quiet glass of wine at sunset. The gardens are lovingly maintained, and are laid out to offer a harvest, from figs and plums to apricots, citrus, and a variety of nuts, in every season.
And, of course, the owners, Poulxeria and Nikos, were attentive to our every need.
We visited after the high season, and much of the village had closed or was closing for the season as we arrived. But we still enjoyed the local business and culture with the time had. Our favorites were Agnanti for dinner, as well as Agra Taverna and Platiea on the upper square. There is nothing quite like getting freshly baked bread from Auntie Eleni's, or stopping by her place after a walk for a sausage pie, cappucino and fresh squeezed orange juice. Its always enjoyable to enjoy a drink and the harbor at Aramis in Loutraki, and of course you shouldn't miss Flisvos on the waterfront for fresh sea food.
For our money, the monpatis are the island's best kept secret. If you want to get a sense for the authentic, and perhaps a feel for what it might have been like to live on the island a hundred, or two hundred, or even three hundred years ago, take a little walk on one of the ancient trails. My favorite was the trail from Old Klima to Atheato, with perhaps a detour at Atheato to Loutraki.
One last thing . . . The people of Glossa are the finest group of people we've met in a long, long time. If you want to anticipate what to expect from them when you visit, look up the Greek word "philoxenos." They're open, and honest, and warm, and I'm honored to call many of them my friends.
