We think some past reviews of this place are a little unfair. Yes the building is old and tired (think 70`s era) and could do with a refresh, but the facilities and service were as one would expect from a low/mid-range traditional Japanese minishuku accommodation. The elderly lady (in her 80`s!) and her son who run the place were lovely and went out of their way to help their guests. We were even offered a lift to the station, which was greatly appreciated. The room was spacious and clean, the bath facilities were ok but definitely in need of renewal. The location is great, just set back from the main beach and near a number of restaurants and a supermarket. The provisions in the communal kitchen could be improved (strange layout, extra utensils and crockery needed) but we made do. There is a pretty courtyard garden with carp pond in the center of the building which makes for a nice setting. Overall we would recommend this place for a budget night or two as long as your expectations aren`t set too high; Shirahama as a whole is a tired beach resort town in need of some modernisation, so this place fits right in!
