"Not worth its 4.8 star rating. We suspect that many guests are not quite honest because the host, Sandrine, is such a nice person. Kind, bilingual, and helpful. We have long hesitated to write an honest review, but we do feel the need to warn upcoming guests about what to expect. "My friend & I arrived for a weeklong stay, and we stayed 12 hours. We did not feel safe because the property was so isolated and had no easy way to secure it when we would leave. My friend found evidence of bedbugs in the largest bed. The kitchen faucet would only run while spraying, and the oven was not clean. Adjacent buildings were cluttered and not clean. We voiced most of our concerns to the owner, and he promised a full refund, but none has been forthcoming."

"When I first made the reservation, I had actually booked for a different cottage on the property and the one that we got was booked by someone else. It was an absolute wonderful accident. The cottage is a one story with two bedrooms and fit our family of five perfectly. Even though it’s on the property and close to the road it’s surrounded by trees and it’s very quiet. "The very kind hostess gave us great advice during our weeklong stay. The gite is fantastic - comfortable beds, ample bathrooms, and nicely equipped kitchen. Avernes is a lovely town, close to many other small villages and beautiful countryside, but also easy drive to Monet’s house and gardens and larger towns. The restaurant in town offers delicious food, and the butcher is well provisioned…both an easy walk from the gite. Highly recommended, Thanks Sandrine!"
