Staying in the Sassi, the old cave houses, is something you really should do to enjoy the full experience. I stayed at San Giorgio Hotel, and it was exactly what I hoped for. It was a special experience, something I will always remember. I really recommend it to anyone who wants to try this kind of stay. "This hotel felt like a palace after being on the go for so long in hotels all over Italy. Usually I prefer authentic but sometimes you just need a good pamper. Room and bed/comfort was blissful. Breakfast second to none. Exquisite! My only drawback was the shower had no shelf or place to keep razor, bar soap, or anything else you need. Frustrating to keep out of shower. Staff was great when interacting. I’d go back just for the breakfast buffet. Wow."

The breakfast was beautiful and delicious. The setting of Matera is stunning. My only regret is that we only had one night there. I am already trying to plan a return trip."
