"We very much enjoyed our stay here. It was only a 10 minute walk to the marina. We found the breakfast to be especially delicious with plenty of choices. The coffee was fabulous . Staff are very attentive, friendly, and helpful."

"The hotel is in a great location just on the edge of Funchal centre. Our room was on the 5th floor overlooking the ocean with beautiful views. Our only issue was that the bed was very firm, although this was cured when the hotel added a mattress topper to the beds after mentioning this fact to Expedia."

"This was our ninth visit to Hotel Porto Santa Maria and as usual it did not disappoint. The staff are so welcoming and friendly. As usual, nothing's ever to much for them and it's refreshing to see the same faces all around the hotel. We find it a peaceful haven. The cleanliness is excellent. We usually only have breakfast which is substantial and varied. Happy hour is a bonus and we enjoy working our way through the fab cocktail menu. Situated, towards the end of the promenade and in the old town, it's surrounded by many good restaurants, for those who don't want to take advantage of the dinner package provided by the hotel. It's also very convenient for the cable car, fruit and flower market and the cathedral. The pool area leads directly onto the prom and there is a raised area, for a leisurely lunch whilst watching the cruise ships berthing. The Porto Santa Maria also has an indoor pool, spa, where you can have a beauty treatment and a gym. WE cant wait to return, at the end of November, for the Christmas lights turn on!"

"Had a great stay all the staff were great. We had an upgrade to a suite what was very nice of them. The location was lovely and allowed easy travel to all places. Overall would recommend hotel to anyone, I would also gladly return to this hotel. "

"Excellent place to stay"

"The hotel is above a shopping centre without any grounds around the hotel, however, it is in an excellent location within easy walking distance to the old town. All the staff were very helpful throughout our stay. The bedroom was sleek and modern with an ‘open plan’ shower/wash area. The beds were very comfortable with 3 different pillows varying from soft to firm. There are no views other than from the rooftop swimming pool and bar area but this didn’t significantly detract from the stay as we were out most of the time. The breakfast buffet was excellent with good quality ingredients and freshly squeezed orange juice. We were also amused by the mobile robot which took the dirty dishes back to the kitchen. Overall the hotel lives up to it’s 5 star billing, is excellent value for money and I would highly recommend a stay at the Vine the next time you are in Funchal."
