The Neighborhood:
Banksia Beauty is set in a quiet and peaceful street with large gum trees at the front and rear of the property that regularly attract the local koala population. Second Avenue beach track is a short five-minute walk away, or it is a two-minute drive/ten minute walk to the main beach (patrolled on weekends in summer and over January), also offering wheelchair access. Ned Neales dog friendly beach is also a ten minute walk away, and there are two well equipped children’s playgrounds within a short stroll. Sandy Point General Store is well stocked for basic food and drink, including a bottle shop (although we recommend stocking up at one of the local towns on your trip down). You can stop by the Community Garden on the way home to pick some fresh produce for dinner, or enjoy some tennis/basketball with the kids. The Waratah Bay Surf Life Saving Club (great place to enjoy a quiet drink and view of the ocean), and the Sandy Point Community Centre regularly host music nights that include food and drinks. Sandy Point Community is great for all the family, with wide, safe tree lined streets, plenty of flora and fauna, family friendly beaches of breathtaking beauty, and the beautiful Wilsons Prom only a 20-minute drive away.
Getting Around:
Sandy Point is a great base for exploring the local region. The historic towns of Fish Creek, Walkerville, Foster and Meeniyan are a short drive away, offering outstanding local produce, art galleries and restaurants - they are a haven for artists and artisans. While there are lots of great bike tracks around Sandy Point, The Great Rail Trail runs through Fish Creek (15-minute drive) and offers fabulous recreation for those looking for a bigger challenge. The entrance to Wilsons Promontory National Park is a 20-minute drive and offers walkers/hikers a great range of short and long hikes that include breathtaking beaches, rivers and wildlife encounters. Local cafes, wineries and restaurants are also in easy reach for those that enjoy the good life. The historic Cape Liptrap Lighthouse and Walkerville Lime Kilns are a short drive away – we recommend the Walkerville (Walky) Kiosk for the best burgers in the region.
Other Things to Note:
Due to the closure of the Gippsland Power Stations, during peak times (i.e. the middle of summer) we are prone to power blackouts. Mobile phone coverage can also be poor, travellers are advised to use Telstra for the best coverage in our area. This is unfortunately completely out of our control.
Each property in Sandy Point is on tank water and septic systems.
