Fabulous cottage in the heart of Qualicum Beach. Inspired by Nature.

This gorgeous 1 bedroom, fully appointed cottage is your perfect home away from home while you explore the Oceanside area of Vancouver Island. Located in the heart of Beautiful Qualicum Beach, the cottage is ideally situated within walking distance of our charming village center, golf courses and our famous sandy beach. For those who seek the solace of our coastal forests Living Columns will be your ideal choice as we are nestled on three sides by the breathtaking and historic Heritage Forest. This protected natural oasis is the perfect place for a morning walk or evening stroll. The cottage derived its name from the famous Naturalist, John Muir who was so enthralled with the giant California Redwoods that he claimed that "they were as breathtaking and inspiring as any European Cathedral", referring to them as "living columns". I could not agree more.

Living Columns is located on our property and perched on an ancient ravine that is home to Western red cedar and Douglas fir, some as old as 800 years. Meandering through these giants is lovely Beach Creek a critical habitat for Salmon and many woodland creatures. Your private deck offers brilliant morning light and intimate evening shade with comfortable, oversize furniture and a cozy fire table to welcome you home after your adventures.

I am very proud to use all natural cleaning products to ensure that your stay is safe as well as feeling good that the environment is being protected. Respect for the natural environment is important to us as I want to leave a legacy for future generations. You can be rest assured that all Covid protocols are being followed in our maintaining and management of Living Columns.

Peaceful cottage in the woods near everything
We really enjoyed our stay and felt comfortable. One thing guests might want to do, and I would do if I stay again, is find parking away from trees and sap. Our vehicle had quite a bit of sap all over it as a result of being parked under the huge trees in front of the cottage. I didn’t think to park anywhere but where the designated parking is, but am sure Dana would have acclimated had I asked.

This is such a relaxing and beautiful location for this cottage - right in the heart of the Heritage Forest! From the moment we arrived, we felt welcome and the host, Dana, came by to check that everything was to our satisfaction. The cottage was super cosy with a feature fireplace and wonderful decor throughout. It was fully equipped with everything needed plus extra items like beach towels, beach chairs, and even a picnic backpack! We hope to go back again!

A very cozy cottage
I was looking for a cozy accommodation for 3 nights as a little getaway from Vancouver. This place did not disappoint one bit. Close to the Qualicum Beach airport, walking distance to the Fern + Cedar Brewery, the city center, the beach, and just steps from walking trails in the forest, this home away from home was everything we needed and more. It's easy to take the #91 Intercity bus to Parksville which we did, 2 days in a row, one day specifically to pick up a rental car. Easy peasy. Dana, the owner, stopped by to welcome us one lovely evening as we were enjoying sitting outdoors, and provided us lots of helpful tips. Dana, you're doing a wonderful job providing such a welcoming space... Thanks for everything! :)

Dana and Jeff were great hosts. They had great suggestions for cafes and coffee places . Living Columns cottage is nestled in the trees making it a peaceful and serene place. We really enjoyed our stay. The cottage has been decorated so lovely . We were welcomed with a bottle of wine ! We didn't want to leave. We hope to come back . Mid-Island Getaway
Dana & Jeff - we really enjoyed our stay at your beautiful cottage retreat: Living Columns. Tucked away in the Qualicum Heritage Forest, with many trails and amenities a short walk away, this cozy getaway was our base to tour the mid-island region. Your attention to detail and little things like beach chairs, picnic kit, bathrobes, etc were very thoughtful and enjoyable. The cottage itself is cozy and warm - recently renovated - with a large gas fireplace, outdoor fire table, and BBQ. We really enjoyed our stay and would love to come back! :)

Lack of Privacy - Beware
This is a level-entry cabin with no effective window coverings on the bathroom or living space. I’m serious - the bathroom window is fully transparent glass with no window covering of any kind. There are woods that direction, but also level ground appropriate for peeping. I rigged something out of a wrap and cardboard to cover it (or I would have had to check out immediately). The living space had some half-curtains for design purposes only - pointless. The bedroom, thankfully, had curtains. The cabin was ok, it had that cheap & cheerful DIY style that so many of these style cabins have. If you are a solo female traveler - and I have travelled on my own extensively - I do not recommend staying here. I didn’t meet the owners - hope I never do. Creepy.

Comfortable cottage in a great location
We really enjoyed our stay at this pretty little cottage. The decor was enchanting, and cozy. The coffee was delicious, and there was a very comfortable bed! (as someone with back issues, it is much appreciated). The location was quiet, and surrounded by forest. Deer greeted us outside one evening as we returned home. And the cottage wasn't too far from the town. A nice relaxing getaway and we'd be happy to return again in the future!

Charming Cottage and Forest Retreat
The cottage was charming and well appointed, with lovely touches throughout that show how much Dana and Jeff cared about making our stay special. When we weren't relaxing indoors, we enjoyed the comfy patio that borders the edge of Qualicum Beach's beautiful Heritage Forest. Although secluded, it's also only minutes away from the beach and the town centre. We couldn't have asked for a nicer getaway. Dana and Jeff are wonderful hosts, and we hope to be visiting again next year.

Tranquility in the Woods
Living Columns is an absolute slice of heaven nestled right next to Heritage Forest on a dead end street with lots of privacy. Dana the host is filled with wonderful knowledge of the surrounding area and so eager to share her tips and great places to visit. The cottage is exactly as shown on the website and simply charming! The decor is lovely and makes one feel right at home. Nothing is missing. We had the best stay and cannot wait to maybe one day visit again. Keep an eye out for the Barred Owl in the neighbourhood. The path into Qualicum town center is a peaceful stroll and just the right distance. I highly recommend Living Columns to anyone wondering if they should book. Thank you Dana and Jeff. We had a wonderful two weeks. The property is definitely within walking distance of the beach and the main shopping area. It is very quiet and peaceful. My only disappointment is that although I heard the owl in the trees outside I never got to see it!

Cozy cabin in Heritage forest
Dana and Jeff are amazing hosts. They want you to enjoy your stay and provide a picnic kit, beach blankets, and beach chairs as well as all the usual house stuff. The property is lovely and overlooks a ravine within Heritage forest. The patio chairs are perfect for drinking morning coffee and listening to birds. The bed and couch were very comfortable. We brought our bikes and used them to tour Qualicum. The property is a quick ride to the beach and town. There is also a bike trail network 2 blocks away which we used to bike to Qualicum cheeseworks. Would highly recommend staying here!
