John & Barrie's Armodillo Review December 2019 to March 2020
The owners, Abraham and Josephina, are great hosts, very responsive, attentive, caring and trying to do their best to accommodate their guests. Both speak English, Josephina very well since she is an English teacher. The property is in a pleasant middle class residential neighborhood about 2 KM north of the Square, near the AKI and the Alligator Gym, on Armadillo between Javier Zetina Gasca and Timon in the Colonia with friendly folks all around, safe and seemingly crime free although a little noisy from the youth dance studio across the street. There are tacos stands and an OXXO in the neighborhood. We had a rental car so getting to the Playa was no problem for us, less than a 10 minute drive to the Puerto Morelos Square, but there is also good prompt taxi service for 50 pesos and bus service for 2 pesos or 8 pesos for a fancy bus. . Several good restaurants are located nearby but not within walking distance for us. However, the property needed to be cleaned before our arrival. We had to buy a new shower curtain to replace the moldy one. The shower had no grab bars when we arrived, but Abraham installed some which was very helpful for us seniors. This might have been their first rental since there were a lot of issues in addition to the lack of cleaning in the beginning of our 10 week stay, the water heater and other plumbing issues in the first 2 weeks. The property has a weird configuration. The living room is accessed from the off street car port but then the kitchen is accessed from the living room and from the smaller bedroom through the main bedroom. The second bathroom, which has no hot water, is out on the patio behind the kitchen. The patio does not get much sun. The TV was good but had no English channel. The WiFi was good and reliable. Garbage pick up was every other day for 8 weeks then apparently the workers went on strike.in the whole area so we then had to tote it away. T.he kitchen is nice and well equipped although we bought a few items to add to it. Extra sheets, pillow cases and towels need to be supplied so they can be laundered and changed. The casa has on laundry facilities but there are plenty of laundries around which cost about 50 pesos per load. Josephina and Abraham arranged for a cleaning lady, Arlay, who did a good job but the 500 peso fee including tip is not Included in the price. . John & Barrie St. Joseph, MI.
