Overall, we were pleased with our stay at Layla Guesthouse. The room was clean and tucked back behind Layla's cafe and on a quiet street. We did not have the opportunity to try out the cafe, dipping pool, yoga, or the upstairs bar - we were too busy exploring Puerto Morelos! The location is ideal for walking to any restaurant and the main square. There is a nice supermarket just a couple of blocks down the street to load up on beverages, pan dulce, and pretty much anything else you might need. Layla's has previously been described as having beach access, though that access has since been gated off and you have to walk in to town anyway to access the beach. There is a school directly across from the guesthouse, which blocks direct access to the beach. The AC worked great and the room stay fairly cool during the day even after we had turned off the AC and were gone for hours. We appreciated having a small fridge to keep beverages and snacks for our daily explorations. The bed was a bit too hard for our comfort level, though we've found that to be generally the case for our travels in Mexico. There was a party our first night at the upstairs bar that went until about midnight that kept us up that evening (just unfortunate timing for us since we had traveled overnight and were low on sleep). But once over, everyone dispersed quietly and we were able to fall asleep quickly. Robin, the host, was sweet and welcoming - as were the resident dogs and cats. :) I would definitely recommend Layla's if you're looking for a clean, cool home base for exploring Puerto Morelos.
