Had a Murder mystery dinner and the Inn was part of the setting. People in town were friendly with the exception of the brewery. It was handy to have restaurants menus available to review. "The owner contact through the VRBO text app was immediately responsive, as in, within seconds! The house was charming, cozy, roomy and well supplied. The price was perfect for our budget. We are a group of 8 retired women hikers so really enjoyed the massage chair downstairs at the end of the day! The chickens in the little coop were sweet and politely friendly and not noisy. So fun to visit every day. We didn't have time to gather and cook the few eggs offered up, but how wonderful to have...

"We have stayed at the Elkader Jail House many times and the Harstad Suite is a great room for the 4 of us. The large kitchen and family space on the first floor provide plenty of space for everyone to get together and relax. Its nearby my family and takes the stress off anyone needing to make space for all of us to sleep. Its comfortable, clean and an easy to walk downtown. We'll be back soon!"

"Awesome little place on the river. Fishing was good, quiet and really enjoyed the fire pit. Located next to train tracks and trains rolled through a couple times in the early morning, didn’t really bother us though as we knew the tracks were there when we booked it. Overall, great place!"

"Truly a "getaway" in a peaceful setting. Host is nearby, if needed, in a beautiful historic farmhouse, but our stay felt quite "private" nonetheless. Very spacious lodgings in The Shouse would easily accommodate larger family groups. TV viewing space and game-playing space for all. "
