THE NEIGHBOURHOOD
It is located on a pedestrian street and 10 minutes from the centre, which you will reach via a completely pedestrian route. It is located 400 meters from the bus and train station, 300 meters from a supermarket, 100 meters from a pharmacy, cafeteria, bakery, pizzeria... You can get to the apartment by car and 400 meters away there is a paid parking lot and another free one. Being a pedestrian street it is very quiet and on the same street you have one of the best places in Pontevedra to have a beer.
TO VISIT
Pontevedra is a city where you live slowly and on the street. It is always full of people. As you walk everywhere, you will see many people going about their business and many others chatting, having a coffee, a beer... You will also see children playing in the street and old people walking. What you will not see much are cars. A good part of the city is restricted to cars which makes the city designed for pedestrians.
PONTEVEDRA SQUARES
Pontevedra is full of squares: Plaza de la Herrería, Plaza del Teucro, Plaza de la Verdura, Plaza de la Leña…
Our favourite, Plaza de la Leña at dusk.
BEACHES
The closest ones are Aguete, Mogor and Portocelo. We usually go to Mogor. There are a couple of beach bars to have a beer or eat. When we have a little more time we go to Areas or Canelas beach, heading towards Sanxenxo. The most fashionable beach in Pontevedra is Lapamán, in Bueu. And one of the best known is La Lanzada. Huge and windy. They all have beach bars.
I don't know what kind of tourism you like, but Sanxenxo is the tourist destination par excellence. It is a very lively area along with Portonovo. Cambados is a town worth visiting and on the way there are several Albariño wineries that you can visit.
O Grove is another destination to consider, there you will find countless beaches, and it is the ideal place to eat seafood.
From Pontevedra you can also easily visit the Cíes Islands, with the best beach in the world according to "The Guardian". We will provide you with all the information to get there.
For those who like long walks, you cannot miss Cabo Udra or Cabo Home, both with spectacular views and beaches.
Portugal is about 45 minutes away. The first town after crossing the border is Valença do Minho, with a beautiful old town and good Portuguese cotton shopping in the Fortaleza.
Vigo is 30 kilometers away and has a small old town that is being restored and the nautical area. The rest of the city is chaotic and the best example of Galician ugliness. You can go by train or bus, which will take you to the very centre of Vigo.
Santiago de Compostela is 63 kilometres from Pontevedra. You can go by car or by public transport, but keep in mind that from the station, both by train and bus, you are 20 minutes from the cathedral of Santiago de Compostela.
This is just a small sample of what you can see. We will provide you with all the information you need to make your stay unforgettable. Michel and Maria
