Infested with Bugs!!!!!!
My room at the Mosquito beach hotel was infested with bugs. When I asked reception if I could switch rooms, they told me all of their rooms had a bug problem. Additionally, the room was dirty and dusty with soiled linens. I would never stay here again.

AVOID!!! Dirty and full of bugs
I was very disappointed with the Mosquito beach hotel. To put it simply - the place was DIRTY!!!! When I checked into my room I found a take-out container full of food in the closet. There was dust everywhere. The room was also full of tiny flying insects that bite. When I went to reception to ask if there was another room available, he said that they have a problem with bugs in every room! His only solution was to send a maid to our room with a can of insect repellent. Gross - no thanks. Sleeping in a cloud of raid is no better than sleeping with bugs. I was bitten up beyond belief - there are tiny red bug bites all over my arms, legs and chest. Our trip included stops all over Playa del Carmen and the whole Yucitan. The only place where I was bitten by bugs was in my room at this hotel. We swatted the bugs ourselves and left the smears of dead bug bodies on the walls and ceiling. When housekeeping came and went the next day, the bug carcarsses were still there - they didn't clean anything!!!! Housekeeping also didn't change the towels or sheets. As far as I can tell, the only thing they do it empty the trash. The attached restaurant served good food but the service was dishonest. They presented the bill with an enormous service charge attached to it. When I asked about the service fee later at reception they told me it was optional. The waiter did not say it was optional - so that left us feeling like we had been taken advantage of.

I never comment on this type of websites but for this horrible stay I had to warn you because it's not worth the money you pay .This hotel Its like a 2 star hotel . Very dirty and very old . The pillows had holes and the bed sheets where stained and riped . The bathroom walls where very stained and the glass of the shower was like if it hasn't been cleaned in ages . The room had a horrible smell . The air conditioner floaded the room because it's a cheap quality even if they "fixed it " it will still break every day . Floor was full of hair and dust even in the sink there was still hair from the previous guest which was very disgusting. The toilet not cleaned at all very stained . EVERYTHING Dirty ! It needs a renovation ASAP and a better Housekeeping team . The location is great but the rest it's very bad.

Beach access, unique pool and centrally located
Overall a very good experience. The design and amnesties where good and staff was excellent. The breakfast buffet was marginal as was the rest of the food offering but there are many restaurants within 2 minutes walking distance. There is free Wi-Fi too that worked throughout the property. The hotel is in a pedestrian zone, there is absolutely no parking. You can choose street parking or pay for private parking 2 blocks away. Not suitable for families with kids, pool is very deep and no play area available.

Brilliant hotel
BEST location in playa! Surrounded by shops, restaurants, bars, nightlife and above all the best beach in the world! The direct beach access is well worth money for a 5th Ave hotel. Beach club is the best, service is exceptional and the food and cocktails are amazing. Hotel staff were outstanding, extremely helpful and friendly. Rooms a well appointed, although the square toilets are a little out there! Best holiday I've ever had, I will be back!

big plus: beach access; big minus: room inter
Plus: location, beach access and Personnel service (quite friendly and helpful) Minus: room interiors (cheap and not well maintained) , safety (we got stolen a bag while at the beach beds), and performance/price ratio (too pricey for what you get)

Very trendy hip hotel with ALL night dance party
We booked here for one night on our way down to Tulum. Our initial impression was great. Very urban, hipster hotel. The room was beautiful with a view of the water. Be warned - they do not provide bottled water. Every other hotel I've ever stayed at in Mexico has provided water. Here the water is in the mini fridge and ridiculously expensive. The beach is very eroded away and will likely vanish significantly this year given that all of their palm trees are tied together - not smart! Breakfast was tasty and included. The absolute worst part was the late night party at the beach club. We checked in and got a room directly adjacent to the beach club. I looked out my window and directly below my window a band was setting up a large drum set. Signs at the beach club indicated a party starting at 7pm that night. No one at the front desk mentioned anything about this. We wouldn't have minded a short party. The party and the band started at 8pm and went until after midnight. The music was amped and so loud in our room even with all of the windows closed. We were exhausted from getting up at 4am to travel and just couldn't sleep - completely miserable and unacceptable that no one said anything to us. It's ridiculous to have something like that right inside your hotel where your guests can't get away from it - during the day, fine but once the sun goes down - no way. Would definitely not return here just for that.

Spare, modern design, beachfront hotel
Enjoyed our stay at this conveniently located beachfront hotel. Half a block from 5th avenue, and close to the bus and ferry, it was easy to get around. Room was spare, but attractively designed. There were a few mechanical issues with the door and toilet and needed more places to hang wet items. Staff was great, and we enjoyed breakfast steps from the ocean every morning on the terrace. Very comfortable double beds for beach lounging under the palms.

Terrible hotel.
Terrible hotel. Staff and service were extremely unhelpful. Room was loud and we asked to be changed and they kept stringing us along w/no intention to move us. Linens were a commodity. We didn't see a wash cloth or hand towel for days. When we continued to ask they looked like us like we had 2 heads. We ran out if toilet paper and took a day for them to replenish it. The staff almost laughed at us with their unsatisfactory responses. The beach is eroded away and they only have filthy beds to lay on. No beach chairs. Totally disgusting. I wouldn't recommend this place to my worse enemy.

Future Tear Down
The location is great: beach front but only 100 yards from 5th Ave. Staff was friendly and bilingual. Food at beachfront cafe was tasty and reasonably priced. Our complaint is with the maintenance. All of the wood trim including the pool deck was weathered. Steel beams were very rusty throughout. Our room and bathroom had wood plank flooring screwed down with phillip's head screws. How do you clean and disinfect rough wood. The King Deluxe room was grossly under-furnished lacking a dresser! And on our last night a band played until 1:30 making for a short night.

No Beach!
Very disappointing. We had stayed here previously 4 times. Last time 4 yrs. ago. The hotel has not been kept up. The beach has washed away and you cant even lay in the sun. The staff at the bar and restaurant are not trained well. They didnt have napkins available. Never was given wash clothes or hand towels in our room. Only 1 bath towel each. They left 1 bottled water per day in our room. It appeared as if it was complimentary, as no price was given. At checkout, we found out that they charged us $15 for each bottle!!!! What a Rip Off!

Great location lacking service and cleanliness
The location and beach is phenomenal, central to the town with good eats and 5th ave. Room had a distinct smell of mold and was not cleaned for the first 2 days of our stay. We had to ask for everything from toilet paper to towels and finally we went to the front and asked them what we had to do to get our room cleaned. They started cleaning the room thereafter but really, I shouldn't have to ask you multiple times for 2 days. Hotel has an amazing ambiance but it is not well maintained...mold, marks on the walls, discoloration, stains, and the bathroom corners/edges are dirty. Air conditioning is great, but rooms are a bit small. Bed is hard (in case you don't like it, we like softer beds). Beach hotel service is good but service staff inside hotel need to learn proper hospitality etiquette. We were given the incorrect bill at checkout, make sure to check all your receipts or they will make mistakes! Won't stay here again, too bad because the location and beach are awesome.

Great Hotel and very friendly and efficient staff!
Nice place to stay in Playa. Right on the beach and centrally located. The staff there was very friendly and helpful. If there are any issues they are on it right away to make sure there are "No Problems" . The room was clean and the bed was awesome. The continental breakfast was OK. The bar and resturant were a bit pricey but the quality and service was excellent. Oh yea, and it's on the beach!

Nice hotel in a great location!
We booked the hotel on a recommendation from our travel advisor. She said is was a great location at a reasonable price. The hotel is right on the beach and at the center of Playa del Carmen's main action (a few hundred feet from 5th Ave). The room was comfortable but on the dark side with dark wood floors designed to take the sand and water abuse. There is a private beach where you can lounge on giant mattresses in the shade of palm trees. The beach is small and eroded, the swimming area has some rocks but mostly sand. Restaurant and bar service and food is excellent. The breakfast buffet was great. You have to watch your bill carefully, the hotel tried to charge us for an expensive water bottle even if we had not taken anything from the mini fridge.

Close to the action but just far enough away
Breathtaking views and a great location. This hotel is ideally situated. The Gulf is only about 15 feet from the property! The rooms could use some updating, especially interior brightness. Try to get a room with a balcony. Restaurants and shopping are only a block away. If you want to make sure you get a beach towel, I would suggest you bring one from home. Also, wash cloths seem to be at a premium. We did not receive one until the third day! Pool is not heated.

Shame nice situated
I had the largest and most expensive room available, but yet, bathroom is so small and inconvinient. Shower to small and no air extractor for example. Clean is not available. I found 3 cucarachas in my room and when I told the reception they just said it was "a city problem"!!!! The beach club wich is beautifully situated, is out of maintenence. Chairs for seating tables are always dirty and you don't want to use their restrooms. Waiters are the worst of playa del Carmen, period. It's a shame the beutiful location and design.
