Pops Place | 3 Bed, 1 Bath

Location:
Nestled off of the Boylston Highway between Mills River and Brevard. The house is about minutes from Brevard and 15 minutes from Asheville Airport. 30 minutes from Asheville.

Bedrooms:

Master Bedroom: 1 King Size Bed
Bedroom #1: 1 Full size Bed
Bedroom #2: 2 Twin size Beds

Description:

As the Mother Goose poem states “And they all lived together in a little crooked house.” Pops Place is that little crooked house that sits on a fish filled pond.  This is truly a house of character, as it was once a tobacco barn that was located in the middle of where the pond is now.  The large windows on both levels were once French doors and the history of the house goes on from there as each piece was put together by the owner’s father (Pops).

The house sits above a pond filled with trout for you to fish and a dock. There is also a hiking trail right next to the property. Pops Place also has an open deck to enjoy the evening cool air. Peace, quiet, and privacy as there is only one neighbor across the pond (They share the pond).

This is truly a house that has a lot to offer a family for a summer vacation.

FOUR NIGHT MINIMUM STAY REQUIRED FOR THANKSGIVING HOLIDAY.

Perfect getaway spot for Spring Break!
The pond was awesome, the view was scenic, the cabin was quaint. All around exactly what we were hoping for and loads to do in the area including: mountain biking, hiking, fishing, Biltmoring, climbing, eating yummy food, drinking good brews and ending with ice cream!

Little slice of Heaven
What a beautiful piece of property to relax and unwind! The scenery was breathtaking and the home was so cozy and comfy! There are great eateries around, so there was plenty to do, see, and taste. However, our favorite part was just to sit and unwind at this beautiful location. Thank you for having us!

Elaine J., Where do you live?

Location, location, location
The description of the property was accurate. It is a unique, quirky cabin in a picturesque location. We chose this cabin because of the location and it was ideal for that - close to all kinds of hiking, and to Brevard and Hendersonville for eating and shopping. We went at a premium time and paid a premium price. We had some frustrations while there including no DVR as advertised (which the property management remedied the next day), no hair dryer as advertised (also remedied when DVR brought), poor lighting for reading and finding things in the kitchen (including the need to replace several burned out bulbs) and a very disorganized although decently equipped kitchen. The place was clean enough but it needed a “spring cleaning” to get rid of cobwebs and dust on less used areas. In addition we had a mouse siting (never saw droppings) and they responded the next day with a sticky trap. On the plus side we had immediate coommmunication with the property manager via texts and phone calls and they were very pleasant and helpful.

Interesting place
We enjoyed our stay. The place was unique and interesting, and conveniently located to the locations we wanted to visit. The grill came in handy and we used it multiple times. If there are certain items you want or need for cooking in the kitchen, then I would bring those things with you. Everything was perfectly fine for us, but I'd say it's more like camping than staying in a condo that has all the bells and whistles.

Perfect spot
Renting this property through VRBO was easy and convenient. The house is on a super clean and cold pond that is home to rainbow trout. We loved swimming in it.. For a convenient walk you can take the gravel road down to Boylston Hwy and jaunt up Sutton Creek and back. It's the perfect location between Mills River and Brevard. Convenient to everything in that neck of the woods. The property is a classic WNC mountain cottage/cabin. Quaint, quirky and restful. We loved our time there!

Pops place
We loved our stay at pops place! We have visited North Carolina quite a bit in the last few years to go hiking. Pops place was the perfect place to stay during our hiking adventures. It was centrally located near DuPont state forest, Gorges state park and Pysgah national forest. We enjoyed coming back to pops place for a home cooked dinner after a long day of hiking. Thank you for your hospitality! Sheena and Andrew

Relaxation
Pop's Place is extremely cozy, peaceful and relaxing! Right on the water, it creates the illusion that you are on a House Boat. Perfect place in autumn. You can enjoy the leaves, curl up in front of the fire, and fish the trout pond.

Rustic and quiet!
The place was old, the ceilings were low (I'm 6'3"), the floors creaked.....and it was fantastic! The area was secluded and quiet and scenic. Just what we wanted for our 29th anniversary. If we stayed one more day, the owners would have had to drag me out of there! We loved it!

It's like staying at Grandpop's cabin in the woods.
Well, it literally is staying at Grandpop's cabin in the woods. We found "Pop's Place" to be very special retreat for a week of family fun in the WNC mountains. Pisgah Forest & Downtown Brevard are about 10 minutes away, Biltmore House & downtown Asheville are about 20 in the other direction. There is a lot to do in the area when you aren't hanging out on the deck. Casting to trout right outside the dining room door is a good start. The property definitely has it's quirks, but they are easily outweighed by it's history & charm. The place is pretty much hand built and was obviously a labor of love for several decades. There are numerous family photos, momentos, and notes on the walls that reinforce the fact that this is a home, not just a house. A few caveats to keep in mind... - If you would rather stay in a shiny, new condo or hotel.... do that. This is different. If you like to camp, you'll love this place. - If you have a toddler or two you should probably wait until they are older before you stay here. The dock is as protected as much as it can be, but it's still open to deep water in a couple places. - Elementary & Middle school age kids will have a blast once they put their devices down. Sliding Rock, Moore's Cove & Looking Glass Falls are a short drive away. - There is a neighbor that apparently lives full-time on the other side of the pond. Do respect their privacy. I assume that they've stocked at least some of the fish in the pond, so practice "catch & release" as much as possible. - The "crooked little house" description refers to the floors. You aren't drunk, the building has settled and the floors do drop off in multiple directions. It's a bit disorienting, but you do get used to it. - If you actually are drunk, you probably haven't made it up the driveway. It's is almost a half mile long, mostly un-paved and not for the impaired or the meek of heart. I enjoyed it, my wife, not so much. You don't need 4WD but I don't think I'd try to do it in a Miata. - Assuming two people share the king size bed in the master bedroom, the place easily sleeps five, six if two share the full size bed in the 2nd bedroom. It's one tub/shower in the downstairs bathroom that limits the capacity. - The upstairs is pretty much "kid sized" the stairs are narrow & the ceilings are low. Our teenaged daughter enjoyed hanging out, reading in the upstairs sitting area.
