Welcome to our waterfront cottage, The Mermaid of Lorain, one of the Pelee Island’s Finest Homes, a two-story building on the very finest sand swim beach in a Cul-De-Sac! It has 3 bedrooms with Queen’s size beds in each room plus 1 pull out bed, which can accommodate up to 8 people. One bedroom (The Cleodora) is located on the main floor while the other 2 (The Nixie and The Ocarina)are located on the second floor. All the rooms and the living room have full lake views.
The flooring is made of carpet over wood, ceramic and laminate. It has a full kitchen with a stove, a microwave, oven, a refrigerator, dishes, glasses, utensils, and a dishwasher. We have a washer and a dryer for the clothes. It has 2 full baths, one on each floor. Bed linens, towels, and cleaning supplies are provided.
The finely decorated white wooden stair railings plus carpets on the stairs to the second floor are added safety features for the children and the elderly.
You'll also find an assortment of coffee makers, dining table, breakfast table and an outdoor gas BBQ grill. There is a large back deck for outdoor sitting. Fine decorated, bright and naturally lit interior features many artworks. The Mermaid of Lorain, Pelee Island’s Finest cottage is a relaxing and peaceful home. It has indoor entertainment with high speed satellite internet, satellite TV, VCR, CD/DVD player, a large collection of CDs and DVDs, a radio, books, and games for all age groups. There is a Playpen for younger children. Heating Base Boards, Fans, and Window Air Conditioners are available. There are plenty of beach chairs and a picnic table. Pelee Island's finest sand swim beach is at your front door. Lake Erie is quite shallow near our beach.

Beautiful relaxing location on a large sandy beach
Amazing location right on a large sandy beach. Very quiet. Nice cottage but it is a cottage. Internet and satellite TV were flaky but so what: relax without a phone and enjoy some nature time! Manager Madeline very pleasant and accommodating. Check-out cleaning process should be posted before making reservation. Make sure to book ferry to the island in advance. Would stay again in a heartbeat!

Incredible Location
Being on the beach was a huge plus, and the cottage did have room for all six of the adults in my group to get along comfortably. There were a few minor things that differed from the listing, but nothing that could spoil our stay. The house was quite clean but also had quite a few spiders - we seemed to be the first guests of the season so again, not a deal breaker. My group is already planning a return to the island, as this was our first time visiting and we loved it!

Great spot to relax!
We had a great time at the cottage! The utilities were all working perfectly, they had all kinds of kitchen supplies, beach chairs, umbrella etc. The place was organized and clean when we got there and it was very easy and smooth to check in. If you have kids, they have playpen :) Definitely staying here again!

Pelee Island - Mermaid on Lorain
I have been going to Pelee Island since the 80's and this is the second stay at Mermaid on Lorain. The location on the Island is amazing with some of the best sandy beach front on the Island. The house is very nice and had a lot of the essentials. We look forward to going back next year!

Beautiful cottage, well equipped and maintained. I really appreciated the large umbrella on deck to block some of the morning sun. The furniture and beds were comfortable and clean. Nice kitchen with good appliances and cooking supplies. Great beach.

Stayed here the long weekend with 5 friends. This cottage is well maintained and clean, beds are comfortable with ample sized rooms, kitchen is well supplied with all you need for cooking, the beach is beautiful which you can walk quite a distance either way. Price is good for what you are getting, but I would rather pay a bit extra and have all cleaning provided (sheet, towels bathrooms). I would definitely recommend this place to friends and/or family. Owner was always available for questions we had either by text or email.

Family vacation
Nice cottage that is well equipped. 6 adults and 2 children slept comfortably. The children slept on a double air mattress. The one room upstairs had plenty of space for the mattress beside the bed. Nice for the kids to have the beach just off the back deck. They had a lot of fun playing at the shore. The adults enjoyed the evenings on the deck. The property owner was quick at responding to my questions. We would rent it again.

Stay on Pelee in August
We arrived on Pelee the last week of August with two young children. The house is exactly as pictured. It is updated and airy. Your backyard is the beach! My daughter loved being so close to the water. I had never heard of Pelee before this trip. We really enjoyed being out of touch for the week. The winery is large and fun. Conorlees bakery is wonderful. There are plenty of nice hikes to take and many outdoor activities to do. The neighborhood was quiet and the people were friendly. We would recommend this home!

Location on the water was excellent, with beautiful sunrise, but read on: We lost use of the cottage for 11 hours in the middle of our two day stay, so no wifi, not able to cook, no water so could not wash,.....had to haul water from the lake to flush toilets. When I requested some compensation for loss of use and enjoyment - the owner said to call Hydro. How absurd. I also urge everyone to read the 'Rules & Helpful Tips to Make Your Vacation Enjoyable' especially the last bullet point (24 items) as it directs to make it ready for the next customer, including washing sheets and making up beds, mop floors, scrub sinks, clean toilets etc. With no power until 10:00, spend all Sunday morning cleaning and washing.

Overall a very nice weekend!
Overall the cottage suited our purpose and we'd consider renting again. There were a couple of small issues that were resolved quickly by the management company who was just a phone call away. We found no beach chairs, but there was a picnic table that suited us fine. The property is close to the water, so listening to the waves beat up the shore at night was definitely a highlight! The property could have used a good cleaning before our arrival (dead bugs, dusty, coffee grounds in the coffee maker, etc) even though the property was used just the prior weekend, but everything that we needed was there and working. Thanks!

This was the second time my friends and I stayed at this cottage and we had a blast! The only thing that we had trouble with was the cleaning process at the end of our stay. My friends and I spent half of the day before and the morning of our check out date cleaning and we still somehow got charged with a cleaning fee. The only thing we forgot was to take out the garbage, which is a $10 fee but we also got charged another $30 for an hour of interior cleaning even when we had left the house cleaner than we received it. I understand the garbage charge but my friends and I should not have been charged that extra $30.

Great location, communication with owner/property owner needs improvement
The property and location was awesome and we really enjoyed our stay. The house is very nice and was perfect for our family. The only downside to the house is that it was FULL of huge spiders. However, it is right on the beach and our children loved being able to go out the door and play on the beach or swim. We also loved the fire pit. I will say that the yard and beach are full of horrible prickers that should be taken care of...they are everywhere and when stepped on, they draw blood. The check-in process was stressful because all the information on VRBO regarding the onsite property manager was incorrect, so we were panicking while we were packing to leave trying to get ahold of someone to figure out how we were going to get into the house. When we finally got in contact with the property owner, it was obvious he didn’t know people were coming to the house that week, though he did scramble to get someone to clean the house before we got there and leave the house open for us. All in all, I think all of these problems could be solved if there was an on-site property manager. It’s obvious the property is not cared for on a regular basis.

Pelee Island - Mermaid on Lorain
Another great Trip to Pelee Island at Mermaid on Lorain. This is our third stay and it was amazing. The place was spotless when we arrived for check in. The location on the Island is amazing with some of the best sandy beach front on the Island. The house is very nice and had a lot of the essentials. We look forward to going back next year!
