"It was very secluded and we loved the beach. We do have a few suggestions: stock more toilet paper, only 2 burners on the stove worked, lots of dead bugs in the sliding door jam."

"We stayed for 3 nights at Kowhai Cottage (Fri/Sat/Sun). It is a lovely old Railway cottage that has been renovated stylishly. It is very well appointed with everything you might need. It is really close to the centre of town so you can walk to all of the shops, cafes and restaurants. The only thing to consider is that it is on the main road, so was noisy throughout the Friday night, Saturday morning with trucks and cars which did keep me awake. The second night I moved to the second bedroom...

"Lovely place with easy access to the beach. Extremely quiet and dark, allowing for great stargazing. Plenty of room for our family to spread out. Friendly host who quickly explained everything and was available for questions via text. Would definitely return the next time we’re near Kaikoura. "

"Overall it was perfect. The views can't be beat and the batch was really clean and had a nice area upstairs during the day to enjoy the view and dolphin watch. During the night the downstairs is cooler and cosy. It does lose one star however because the upstairs bedroom smells of smoke and the downstairs one isn't really suitable for a couple given the single bed blocks you easily getting in and out of bed and no bedside tables."

"This motel is perfectly located and close to everything. As well, right across the street from the beach and the magnificent views. Our hostess was very friendly and helpful. We were able to stash our bags with them upon checkout as our train was in the late afternoon. We were also taken to the train station as it would have been quite the walk with suitcases. They went above and beyond! I highly recommend this motel. "
