If your goal is to completely leave the world behind and enjoy time with family and/or friends there is no better place in the country, I'm convinced. This house had EVERYTHING we need plus 100 things more. There is so many nooks and crannies in the house to lose yourself if you want to break away from the group for a little bit, and the yard, lake and surrounding property gave us endless things to do. I'm not sure who had more fun, the kids, the dogs or the adults. Anything you could possibly need on vacation was here, including cribs & pack and plays for babies. We set up the volleyball net, used the dock, played wiffleball, hiked, relaxed by the fire, watched the Olympics in the theater room. it was the perfect setup!
If you're looking for easy day-trips or side-trips away from the house, you'll have to do some driving. We went in to Portland one day but that's a good hour drive from the house, and we rented boats on Sebago Lake one day, but that's a good 45 minute drive as well. Norway is a cute little town, with a great new microbrewery.
But seriously - there's no need to ever leave this house. We will most certainly be back.
