The purpose of my stay was to work on my novel. Since I was alone, I was somewhat uncomfortable as to where the backdoor led, and there was no lock on the basement door. Most of Ottawa is old and historic, which is what I wanted since my novel is about Abraham Lincoln.
Great stay and the rental is walkable to downtown area and many restaurants. It is close to Starved Rock State Park, the reason for our stay. The rental has numerous books, activities and toys available if your of the mindset.
The only thing I would change would be to add a backdoor as this can be of benefit.
Overall, a great stay
We didn't spend a lot of time at the house during the day - mainly just slept while we visited friends during the day. We had our 10 month old; we didnt use the items, but we found a pack n play and other items she could've used which is helpful. I'd recommend some new pillows for the larger beds, but overall, a great stay.
Definitely an older home, not the best neighborhood, parking is tight, very limited amenities (no bath products besides toilet paper, nary a wine glass) and beware of the stairs to the bedrooms - they are very slanted. The floors all creek and the basement is creepy. One of the bedroom tv's does not work.
Very clean upon arrival and all beds are very comfortable. Plenty of room for 6 adults. I only used the downstairs shower, water pressure and hot water availability was awesome! Communication was a breeze and response time was very fast! Check in couldn’t be any easier.
Plenty of towels, extra blankets, toilet paper, trash bags.
The only issue I had was 3 of the downstairs windows do not lock and it made me uncomfortable sleeping in an area I’m not familiar with. I did mention this to the owner and he said it would be addressed. Prior to my renting the house I did check for crime which showed low in this area. However on our 2nd night stay our door dash delivery brought to our attention that a sex offender lives across the street (1 house over). This information is open to the public in Illinois and upon checking, she was correct.
Location was easy to find and in a quiet area. We were in town for a unit reunion and ceremony at the Middle East Conflicts Wall Memorial so we weren’t at the house much but it did allow us a place to retire to that was cool and quiet. Only thing that we couldn’t get to work was the tv in the bedroom but that allowed even more peace after the long, chaotic days. We look forward to staying again next year.
