The property has blemishes but it was a tremendous value (even before exchange). My experience was one night and I didn't soak in the public bath. But the residents appeared to enjoy it. "If you are looking for a remote lake get away in northern Otsu this is ideal. This location suits the out door adventure types who want to be away from Otsu city. The lake was an amazing place to swim. What also would be a Great Lake side party atmosphere and relaxation with a group of friends. Amazing cleanliness despite the overall facility being quite old. However rooms and common room air conditioned which was a life saver in the hight of a Japanese summer. The Hostel is not located near any shops and not close to the train station so be prepared to do some serious walking or better rent a bike whilst you are there."

"Extreme proximity to train station a priority. This means trains can also be heard from many rooms. Even though the soundproofing is good, this can be bothersome for a sensitive guest. Clean spacious room. Wonderful staff. Good breakfast."
