We drove north to Taormina/Etna, south to Marzamemi and West to Modica and everywhere in between, all of which were reasonable distance drives. "Full of character (with a museum in the basement). Close to restaurants and other sights (the cathedral/museums etc...). Self catering in rooms is basic - better to eat out. About 120 Euro taxi ride from Catania airport. Reception is not 24/7 so arriving out of hours needs some advance planning. Reception staff are very helpful. Ortigia itself is tiny and you can walk everywhere. Don't forget your afternoon siestas. "
