I don’t really know where to begin but to say DON’T DO IT!
First of all, there really is no “Mermaid Suites at Sandcastles” We asked a taxi where it is. They didn’t know and we were 1 block from the place. The name of the hotel is Sandcastles. The front desk at Sandcastles were confused when we asked about Mermaid suites. It’s a marketing ploy and it worked on us. (Fool me once...)
Each “suite or room” is privately owned and managed by a management company NOT the front desk. I reserved an ocean view suite and apparently, they let the previous tenant stay an extra day so we ended up in an old dumpy dumpster view room. The sad part was that they had someone escort us to the “room” and never told us about the change hoping we would forget what we reserved. The “room” was falling apart in front of us and we had no choice but to stay the night and leave. Don’t let the pictures fool you, they were taken 40 years ago when the place was new. Told the front desk it wasn’t what we reserved and there was no other ocean view suites so they offered us a very small refund. I wouldn’t pay that for the room. The 4 people in the lobby with us were dealing with the same issue and there was NO communication. The only redeeming factor in it all was that Expedia gave us a coupon to cover the cost of the room. Terrible first day in Jamaica. DON’T DO IT!!
