Apartment: Awesome, it was a great stay. Located on the east side of the island; it is in a very quiet and safe area of town. The room was as clean as one would expect and it was perfectly comfortable for the 5 days that I was there. The room had wifi and a small kitchenette as well; both came in very handy. Very affordable compared to any hotel that is located downtown and it was definitely worth it.
Things near-by: Just a 5 minute walk from the apartment is a budget food mart and a “Solomon’s” supermarket just a 15 minute walk further down the road. The public bus or “jitney” passes nearby on Yamacraw hill road and is a lot cheaper than taking a cab. The #11 jitney will take you all the way downtown for just a $1.50! This is how I got around the island and it was great not having to walk too far to catch the bus. Just flag them down when they come by and they’ll stop for you.
Things to do: Just a half hour walk away from where you stay is beautiful Yamacraw Beach. The warm, crystal clear waters are perfect for a nice afternoon swim. The beach was big and not crowded when I went. Perfect for a picnic. Also, just a 5 minute walk from the apartment is a local-favorite food spot. Try some delicious Bahamian cooked food at “Checker’s”. I recommend trying the BBQ chicken, BBQ ribs, and the fried plantains. All were very delicious. Across the street from Checker’s is a small bar called “Ultimate Freezing Point” that serves great local beer and rum. Definitely worth it to stop by
