Remodeled in 2012 and completely renovated in 2019-2020, this home provides a rustic and modern feel while relaxing in the country side. Located along a creek bed, this property is within 10 miles of the Shawnee National Forest, with multiple wineries and hiking trails along the way. Being right outside the city limits of Murphysboro, known nationally for its BBQ, and a short drive from Carbondale and SIU (10-15 miles), you will be in an ideal area to see what Southern Illinois is all about!
The space
The highlight of this home is not only the spacious interior, with upgraded appliances and personal touches, but its back yard. Being surrounded by woods, after some rain you will hear the creek flowing at the bottom of the valley. Layers of creek rock line the large firepit. At night, the sky is wide open in the front yard and on a clear night, without the lights of the city interrupting your view, the stars are too numerous to count!
Each of the bedrooms is equipped with a bed, nightstand(s), a TV, DVD player, and storage for clothes and bags (either a dresser or closet). There are 2 full bathrooms which gives plenty of space for 8 guests to share. The kitchen is stocked with everything you should need to get away from the hustle of everyday life. While you're here, slow down, relax, and enjoy the seclusion! There are 3 window AC units and a circular fan as well as ceiling fans throughout the house that keep this home well cooled in the heat of summer.
Wi-Fi is now available at this home! T-mobile is the carrier, and the username/password details are printed out inside the home. DVD's are also provided for your enjoyment.
Murphysboro is well known for its BBQ. 17th Street originated here and Pat's BBQ (also located in Murphysboro) is a fierce competitor, both having received many national awards and recognition. In addition to these restaurants, there are many others that are family-owned in our small (ish) town.
Southern Illinois is also well-recognized as wine country. Starting at this home, you will be at the top of the Shawnee Wine Trail and can hit the wineries one by one. When in season, the fruit from our local orchards are stunning. Nothing compares to a fresh, locally grown peach! Also in Murphysboro: a brewery! Visit one of our many local pubs for a taste!
Kinkaid Lake is only a few miles from this house as well. A must-see while you're in the area: Kinkaid Spillway!
