Iguacu Falls which includes a waterfall as well as a large group of people

The impressive gateway of the church stands as testament to the power the Jesuit missions held over the local populations. This red sandstone gateway once stood 30ft tall (10m) as it welcomed the native Christian population into it's cavernous interior.

San Ignacio Mini was a Jesuit mission established in 1610 with the aim of converting the local Guaraní natives. The mission moved to this location in 1666 and a large complex was erected to house and protect up to 4000 converts. The complex was built in Spanish baroque style around a central courtyard and included a large church, school, hospital, cemetery, dormitories and workshops.

The mission was largely abandoned when the Jesuits were expelled by Spanish decree in 1767, and was then destroyed by Paraguayan decree some 50 years later. The remains of the mission were rediscovered in 1897 and are now listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

"Immersed in rainforest with high over the river views. After 2 weeks travel, this was just the quiet and relaxing resort property we wanted. Enjoyed spacious room with balcony and seating at the bars and restaurant around number of pools. Staff ranged from satisfactory to outstanding. Not in the 5 star luxury category, but a good choice. Convenient to the Falls and town. "

"We were super impressed with our stay at the Iguazu Grand. I was a bit concerned as I had read some poor reviews from some people complaining about various things. We arrived after a weeks stay in a 5 star hotel on Copacabana (well known global brand) but we have to say this was far superior in every sense. "Beautiful property. It is a bit remote and very quiet. Staff are wonderful and restaurant is delicious. Rooms are comfortable and have the little touches that you like to see in a higher end resort. Would definitely stay again. "

Charm in the jungle

"Super quick but relaxing stay. Loved being surrounded by the jungle. The setting was rustic chic. The staff were very friendly & professional. The pools were perfect after hot days spent walking at Iguazu Falls. The restaurant was very classy but a bit too stiff for us. The attention to detail was nice but we felt the ultra gourmet, complex menu offerings were too formal for the vibe of the lodge. Felt like we were being too closely watched while we were eating. A bit more relaxed food & vibe would have been better for us California folks but we appreciated the effort! "

"We had an absolutely lovely stay at this property! The pool is AMAZING and seems to be recently renovated. Rooms are spacious, modern and clean — if not simple. The best part? AMAZING shower pressure. Top 5 shower experience — especially after a long, hot day at the falls and park. A/C got nice and cold at night as well. Property is super central with nice restaurants nearby, and one of the best in town attached! Five stars from this family of four. Would absolutely recommend and go back! "
