Serene Log Cabin Nestled Among the Battlefields

This custom built log house (sleeps 4-5)sits on the original spring house foundation from the early 1800's. The house is in the foot hills of the Maryland Mountains near world class golf resorts, ski resorts, shopping, antiquing, fantastic hiking, and some of the nation’s most important historic battlefields. The cabin is all wood inside and out. It has a large stone fireplace, as well as a classic wood stove which can be used for cooking and baking. Unfortunately due to a few incidents we have changed our policy to no wood-burning fires inside the cabin. We do have a fireplace insert that holds fuel cans that burn for a nice cozy atmosphere without endangering our guests or the cabin. We’ve recently installed a new heating and AC system so the cabin is warm and toasty in with red and cool in summer. The bedrooms are actually open 2 open loft areas with a catwalk connecting them to a central landing. The upstairs is open to the downstairs and leaves the cabin with a large spacious feeling. The 2 beds are built in and each loft has a small seating area and a private balcony. There is a small convertible sofa that can be extended for 1 additional sleeper. There’s a deck off the back, overlooking the main house’s back yard and the neighboring horse fields. The back deck in the mornings can’t be beat for sipping coffee and watching the horses as the dew burns off the fields.

Just what we needed.
We had a great time! Due to unavoidable circumstances our reservation was cancelled the day we were supposed to leave. Normally that would have ruined our trip but our host Joe found us a replacement cottage a few miles away and saved the day. The cottage was perfect and had the rustic feel we were looking for. It was more expensive than the original property but Joe said not to worry about the price they would take care of it. 10/10 for the property 20/10 for our great host! Thank you for a great weekend. Highly recommended!!!

Cute little cabin.
Very cute little cabin. Stairs to upstairs are steep, but manageable. Bed was comfortable. The chair that pulls out for bed is full size. Not terribly comfortable because there is a wood piece that is about 1/3 the way from the back of the chair that you can feel through the cushion, but it was still a good option for someone who has difficulty with the stairs. The bathroom is small with airplane type toilet, but that was kind of fun. There is a louvre door to the bathroom, so not much privacy, but we made do. It served us well for the 2 of us and the 2 dogs and the quirkiness made it fun too.

Not great
If i would have know that there was down decorative pillows i would not have stayed. My family reunion was cut short to my extreme allergies to down. Throw pillows upstairs to try to get some relief...but throat was sweeling shut. My one son sprained.his ankle on the rolled off driveway. Horrible parking. The cabin was very dusty with all the knick knacks and unable to wash the walls. Im sure others would enjoy it but it just was a bad experience. Oh the door know is loose unable to lock. Debbie D.

Quaint little cabin
Started rather bumpy. Finding the parking is a challenge. The driveway is hidden which in itself is not a problem. Getting into it could be. We drive a compact and still had to take several swipes to get into the parking spot. Certainly not perilous but tight all the same. We were warned before arriving that it is tight parking. I would not suggest driving a full size here. The only other things worth mentioning are that there is another house sharing the lot less than 50 yards from the cabin and the decks could use a cleaning. We had a nice time.

Cute cabin
The cabin we stayed in was a very cute cabin. I especially liked the upstairs loft area. Our only suggestion would be for the owner to leave a few instructions in the cabin itself. We blew a fuse and had to wait for the owner to respond before we could find the breaker to flip. Otherwise we throughly enjoyed our stay.

Cozy and Centrally Located
We were in town for a dog show. this property was centrally located to the different venues. The fenced in yard was a big plus as there was plenty of room for the dogs to run.

The cabin
The actual cabin was great. Met all my needs. Parking was a problem. The space in front of the cabin is narrow and steep. There's not enough room to turn your car into the cabin's driveway. If you have a car that's the size of a Prius or VW beetle, there shouldn't be a problem.

Amazing get away!
The cleanliness was on point. Cozy atmosphere! Plenty of space for 2 adults and a 12 year old. Smaller dogs would work better when staying in the cabin. We made it work with our large Saint Bernard (house cow) because he is little another person and our little guy. The lower yard for the dogs was very nice which they enjoyed. Close enough to get groceries and other places. I highhly recommend this place. Also you have to try out South Mountain Creamy. (homemade icecream) I also give the host 5 stars because she answered all question that I sent her way and even recommended things to do in the area.

No WiFi
Cabin is cute but be prepared for a tech detox. No WiFi because it is too remote. And the TV didn’t work and owner took a while to respond with assistance. I could have been ok with it if I had known. Not much to do in the area, especially in the rain. Great if you want peace and quiet to sleep or read several novels.

Beware
Too many details to discuss the whole awful experience. I will try not to go on too much. This trip was to be a covd get away with my hubby. A nice night of Super Bowl watching and snacks sitting in front of a fire, hiking, and more fireplace time. I did a lot of research to find a place specifically with a tv and fireplace. We get there, I put out all the snacks, ready to go...the tv doesn’t work. My husband desperately trying to get it to work....nothing..after several texts back and forth to the manager, saying, this has never happened before. 4 hours later nothing, no super bowl. The fireplace...kept filling the cabin with smoke each time we tried to use it. We know how to use a fireplace, it wasn’t our error as insinuated. The manager did finally call to help, but to no avail...no tv, no fireplace. And, we’re paying for cleaning service? They didn’t clean the kitchen drawers..full of mice do. The manger did keep apologizing, but Never once did we hear from the owners through all of this. Not even to say we’re sorry, or offer a partial money back for our troubles. Just a..‘maybe we can give a discount if you come in the spring’..ah..no thanks. The one time I splurge.. and spend more than usual... for not having the amenities advertised. We didn’t want excuses why things weren’t working, or insinuations, just some, ‘what can we do for you’ concern. Not a way to do business. Hopefully all the kinks will be ironed out for the next visitors. Sorry we had to be the guinea pigs.

The cabin is beautiful, clean, and cozy. We rented it thinking access to the fenced yard was included. It isn't, which was disappointing, but the owner was really nice about it.

Cozy cabin. Close to many activities and parks. Highly recommend Dempsey's Grille! Great local place to eat. Ask for copy of renters package - we didn't receive one until arriving at cabin. Would have been a great help ahead of time.

cozy cabin
My husband and I stayed in the cabin for 2 nights. The beds were very comfortable, the kitchen had everything we needed for our short stay, and the fireplace was warm and relaxing after long days visiting Harper's Ferry and Frederick. We loved seeing the ducks and the pig in the backyard! Very private with easy drives to nearby sites. I would definitely recommend this cabin to family and friends. First time using VRBO and happy with the entire experience.

Comfortable Cabin
Adorable cabin, great location, comfortable beds. Close to parks for hiking. Sitting on the deck at night listening to the stream and watching the fireflies twinkle in the trees was so relaxing. Our favorite restaurant in Frederick was the Cuban restaurant. Try the spicy margaritas and the sizzling shrimp appetizer. I felt the cabin had some neglect in the up keep or I would have given it 5 stars.

Great place for getting away from it all
Really cute cozy cabin, probably better in winter than summer because it doesn't have air conditioning and only a couple of windows have screens. But loved sleeping in the loft, and while right next to a road, it is not busy at night so very quiet. Lovely neighbors with dogs, ducks, and pot-belly pig (loved her). Away from it all, and yet close enough to get to hiking, tubing, wineries, etc. Really great dinner at South Mountain Inn. With a really good overall cleaning (musty, cobwebs), I would have given this a 5-star rating.
