"In any other place, I would have given this 4 stars. However, given the shortage of reasonably-priced, top-notch hotels around the lake, my 5-star rating reflects what was available for Taiwan. "Just had a wonderful stay at Xianal Vacation Chateau (夏內爾渡假民宿). It was just a piece of paradise among the strawberry fields. It's just off the busy Taiwan Route No 3, but the noise level was not a concern due to good sound insulations. It's also a short drive to the town of Dahu for a nice meal. "Rooms are big but dusty. Bigger rooms have air-conditioning but smaller rooms do not have air-conditioning, and rely on the cool air in the evening. Therefore have to open windows. Bath tub available, but each guest is provided with only a small packet of shower gel/shampoo packet. So you can only take 1 shower a day, unless you bring along your own shower gel/shapoo. "Our stay at Lifu Garden Inn was fantastic. The host is so kind and helpful. We arrived low on gas and they helped us fill up from a local nearby since the gas station there is not yet completed. The drive up to Lifu is incredible. What an amazing place to live. The restaurants are about 3 min up the road and are all delicious and the views are unbelievable with the fog rolling around on the mountains. "The stay at Fuyam was excellent in every aspect. Beautiful and tranquil environment that looks like a page out of a pictursque storybook. "We only stayed for one night in the biggest room (3 adults and 3 kids). When we opened the door, everyone was so excited, the room is big and comfortable, I love the style (designed by the host). They also provide the clay/ hand made pottery lesson and DIY pizza for guesses, we all had so much fun with the lesson. the host are very kind and friends, I will bring all my family and go back again soon."

"We arrived around 8 pm just as all the surrounding dining options closed, unfortunately. This area of Taichung has a gritty feel, not as welcoming, friendly, safe and clean as other places in Taiwan. (So, maybe more like a large North American city that way?) This hotel is gorgeous, the front doors and lobby are totally unique and special. The rooms are clean, modern, very comfortable, beautifully lit. The washroom is exquisite, especially the shower! Staff go way out of their way for you. A great stay. "
