"It’s not really fair to rate a property while it’s undergoing renovations. This hotel is busy updating, and we wish them all the best with their big changes. We have stayed here several times before, and once again — despite the renovation — we found super friendly staff; a clean, comfortable room; and a very cool ambience. When this hotel is finished with its updates, it will be a dazzler. We’ll always stay here when passing through Cortez. "

"We enjoyed our short time at the Retro Inn. We have a picture with Elvis for our memories and had a quiet, restful night. Breakfast was a good mix of items, fueling us for a Mesa Verde NP tour. "

"We only stayed one night, but the Strater will always be remembered. What a fantastic piece of working history. Every inch of this hotel is impressive. The staff are lovely and seem to love the hotel and their jobs. I was amazed at the quantity of staff who take care of this gem. We will be back. We had recently stayed at the El Tovar, which was terrific, but we put the Strater beside it. I think the Strater is better maintained with nicer amenities. "
